The Science of Sound and Anatomy of a Speaker

Have you ever wondered how speakers work? It main seem complicated on the surface, but actually speakers utilize a couple of fairly simple concepts to achieve sound reproduction.

Speaker Stands Vs. Wall Mounts

Placing speakers can be a difficult task, not only do you need to balance visual aesthetics with optimal sound performance, but there are different guidelines for placing each speaker in a surround sound set up.

Choosing Your Surround Speakers

Positioning the surround speakers is crucial in order to enjoy the immersive sound that home theater is known for. But, deciding which configuration and what type of speaker to use can be daunting.

How to Watch Netfix in Surround Sound

I know that Neural is a bit of an oddball format that many receivers don't feature, but should you happen to have it, I can highly recommend that you use it for the most immersive surround experience when you are converting a stereo source to surround.

Bi-amp Benefits and Configurations

The bottom line is if you have the two extra channels available in your receiver or amp and you have speakers that support bi-amping, then I would recommend hooking them up in this configuration. It certainly won't hurt anything and I think you will hear at the very least a modest improvement in your speakers' sound.

How Architectural Speakers Can Improve Your Home Theater

Placement of an architectural speaker is critical for optimal stereo imaging. Given that they will be installed, if any changes need to be made you'll need to bust into your walls, and that's no fun.

Sonos introduces PLAYBASE - an off the wall approach to TV sound

Sonos announced PLAYBASE, the latest addition to its wireless home sound system and the newest speaker in their home theater lineup. Inspired by the simple insight that up to 70% of all TVs stand on furniture and are not mounted to the wall, PLAYBASE is a thin, yet powerful speaker that sits discreetly under the TV. Priced at $699 US and available in both black and white, PLAYBASE will be available globally starting on April 4, 2017.  At just 58 mm in height and packing 10 drivers, PLAYBASE offers everything you'd expect from a Sonos speaker - great sound when the TV is on and music all the time when it's off. It was designed to disappear into the home. Appearing as if it was cut from a single piece of granite, it challenges conventional expectations of sound from a thin speaker. The construction comes together with no visible seams resulting in incredibly clean lines, an ultra-flat top surface, and more than 43,000 holes that make up an acoustically transparent grill.   Full Press Release:
