Orinoco RG-1000 Residential Gateway
I must admit this is my first good experience with wireless networking so I'm pretty hyped about the convenience. There may be better or cheaper systems out there that I haven't tried yet but as far as I'm concerned the RG 1000 does the job that I need to get my work done every day ... and that's what is most important to me at this point. It's definitely a keeper.

The residential gateway offers a window of intelligence about your home. With tangible and specific feedback on your own energy use, you're more equipped to make changes that have a bottom line result. For example, if you know exactly how much it costs to run a hot tub in the winter or to keep the air conditioning on full blast when the family is at work, you are likely to make some smart, cost-cutting choices.

You can expect that SCP products will offer a whole new world of possibilities and features.

D-Link DI-701 Broadband Gateway
For only $99.00 for the DI-701 you will gain very effective protection and it also has a very fast install. The worry about being hacked into is real and if you want to see, as I did, load up some intrusion detection software and you will discover that there are people scanning and looking for easy vulnerable prey. Don't be one of them.
D-Link DSC-350
The camera works great outdoors, but needs a bit of light indoors (no flash). It has a simple light level meter on the top and the shutter speed is from ΒΌ~1/2000 second. As well it has a self-timer and a multi picture mode. A manual focus ring goes from 1-1/2" focal length (miniscule) to infinity, so you have to know the distance to your subject. Most the time I set it at infinity.
Energy Gateways
Because it has access to all devices and appliances in your home, a smart gateway can apply pre-programmed guidelines to prioritize, cycle, and alter set-points to bring energy output down to pre-established levels. It can also send you warnings or alerts, giving you the option to override the system and make your own choices about what to do.
FCC Decision Bolsters HomeRF
For HomeRF, the FCC decision, while a long time coming, is a major victory. Without a positive decision there was a real possibility that HomeRF would have been fatally caught in a pincer movement between IEEE 802.11b's higher bandwidth and Bluetooth's lower cost.
MMDS Broadband
MMDS is ideally suited for areas where DSL and cable cannot reach. And in areas where these services are available, MMDS can offer ISPs the advantages of rapid deployment, a swift time-to-market, none of the "last-mile" obstructions inherent to DSL and cable service, and a more cost-effective mode of providing Internet service. All of these advantages should prove very enticing to ISPs scrambling to establish a presence in the broadband market.
Sleeping Giants
Silently in backrooms and golf courses deals are being penned to bring these capabilities to bear. Service channels are being developed and smart homes are cropping up everywhere. And while no one owns a crystal ball, the writing is on the wall. Historically, it is in moments of time like this when a smaller more agile player seizes the opportunity to capitalize on market uncertainty and devise a universal solution that slays the sleeping giants.
