Tips and Tricks for using your Media Center

If you are using Digital cable and watching movies with 5.1 surround sound make sure your MCE has digital audio in. This will allow you to record 5.1 surround sound and play back the movies the way you like. Not even Tivo can do that!

Viewsonic VP2330WB 23" Wide Screen LCD

Opening two programs side by side is possible with the VP23330WB. Having Photoshop open next to your 3d application makes texture painting a lot less tasking. Also using one side of the monitor for reference material is also a nice luxury.

Web Content Coming to Devices

The original definition of the World Wide Web was formulated in terms of connectivity between multiple PCs. Now it is referencing a network of interoperable devices capable of sending and receiving documents formatted in HTML (Hypertext Mark-up Language), transferred via HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol).

Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote Control

The remote itself is very nice to use ... the buttons are slick and the LCD screen is clear. Having a recharging station is terrific too. I never lose the remote any more, it's always ready to go and I never have to worry about changing batteries. The IR signals are stronger than any other unit I've tried so it never fails to do it's job. Just picking up or tilting the unit brings on the LCD screen ... no buttons to push for that ... nice!

Panasonic KX-TG6502B Phone System

A major advantage of these phones is that you only need one phone jack for the main unit. The rest of the handsets just need an AC outlet for the charger. This makes it easy to use with VOIP since both lines are connected via one Router and there is no need to wire the house or condo for multiple lines.

Can Media Centers do HDTV?

The ideal situation is to be able to decode HDTV signal directly into the media center without having to go through a cable or satellite box. Microsoft has promised they will support this capability in the upcoming release of Windows Vista (Fall 2006) and ATI demoed the OCCUR at the 2006 CES in Las Vegas. This new TV tuner card will allow you to receive HD signal directly into your Media Center plus it has built in cable card support (CableCard 1.0).

CannonPC LX Series Media Center PC

Getting to Know Audio Servers

Grid Friendly Appliances

Grid Friendly appliance controllers, which are about the size of a playing card, can sense the frequency of electricity and measure deviations from its normal 60 Hz to determine the health of the energy grid and respond without the need for any communication system.

HD-DVD First out of the Gate at CES

Whether Blu-ray manufacturers know it or not, it is now a horse race for the mind share and eyeballs of the consumer, and early reports in from CES seem to indicate that the HD-DVD camp is first out of the starting gate and taking a lead in that race.

HDTV Untangled

Put simply, HDTV is high definition TV. Self-explaining acronyms aside, HDTV displays signals that are much higher in resolution than what has been broadcast since the dawn of television itself. The improvement is immediately clear: greater detail and more realistic images.
