Connected Technology Comes to Life at HD Expo 2018
Connected technology will come to life this May at the 2018 Hospitality Design Expo and Conference (HD Expo), the hospitality design industry’s premier tradeshow. Today, HD Expo announced that CEDIA Expo, the leading event in connected technology, will bring some of today’s most prominent custom technology integrators to the HD Expo Power Hub, a new show space dedicated to discussing the intersection between hospitality spaces and the technology that connects our lives.
“Today’s consumers expect tech-savvy spaces. They want the technology integration that they’re enjoying at home carried over into their hospitality experience,” said Stacy Shoemaker Rauen, editor in chief of Hospitality Design magazine. “We’re excited to welcome CEDIA Expo to the Power Hub to get designers and integrators talking, collaborating and working together to bring thoughtfully integrated and well-designed spaces to their clients.”
“We’re thrilled to have a piece of CEDIA Expo living on our HD Expo show floor,” says Liz Somerville, group show director of Emerald Expositions. “The Power Hub will bring hospitality designers together with a community of custom technology integrators who are bringing connected built environments to life.”

Style without Sacrifice - Blending Great Style and Great Technology
Historically in hospitality, design almost always trumped function. Today, we’re seeing a shift as hospitality spaces use technology to enhance design and the overall customer experience. As design projects continue to integrate more and more technology, designers and integrators together should look for ways to also maintain the integrity of the design and of the overall space. Joe Whitaker, founder and president of The Thoughtful Home by JWhitaker Designs, shares how audio, video, networks, and even surveillance are areas of tech integration that can be discretely blended into the most palatial environments with devices that offer the best in performance.
Outdoor Hospitality Entertainment is Not the Same as Indoor - What to Know and What to Use
Outdoor design is an entirely different animal than that of its indoor sibling. In this talk, Joe Whitaker, founder and president of The Thoughtful Home by JWhitaker Designs, explains how to enhance an outdoor space through integrative technology without fighting nature or sacrificing design or performance.
Designing for Quiet
When guests book your property, they have many and varied expectations; but, common to all guests is the expectation of rest in a quiet space. Dennis Erskine, formerly a Vice President at Holiday Inns Worldwide (now IHG), and CEO of his firm specializing in architectural acoustics, will discuss various methods for controlling and isolating sound throughout your properties to improve the guest experience.
