Skylink has over 25 years of experience in the wireless technology and home automation industry. Our product lines include wireless security systems, garage door openers, as well as, lighting and home automation devices. Which technologies do your products use to communicate with each other and how does it work?

Skylink develops its own wireless communication protocol, which has the following advantages: 

  • Low Power Consumption – Most battery operated devices uses AA or AAA alkaline batteries which are commonly available and inexpensive, while providing typical 2 years of battery life.  Even AC operated devices such as wall switches or wall dimmers are able to operate without neutral wire. 
  • Extended Operating Range with improved penetration – Skylink’s wireless communication protocol operates at a lower frequency, providing better penetration through walls and further operating range compared to other protocols on the market. 

 

Do your products communicate with products from other manufacturers using a standard protocol?

No, Skylink’s connected home suite does not communicate with other products on the market.  Therefore, we provide a very broad product line for our customers to choose from.

All of Skylink’s products are designed to be installed by the homeowner without any special skills or tools. Skylink offers detailed quick guides for homeowners to easily install their new units.

 

In a short paragraph or 2 please describe how your products fit into a Smart Home scenario and how they are set up to work together to perform automated tasks.

Skylink offers an Event Trigger function which creates “If…then…” scenarios, allowing users to program events, such as, “If the front door opens, then turn on the porch light.” Users can specify the time, day and status of when the main unit should be activated. Users can also set-up various schedules to control multiple automation devices depending on a homeowners needs, such as, “If a flood sensor in the basement is activated, then trigger the siren, send the homeowner and push notification, and turn on all of the lights in the basement.”

After graduating from the University of Waterloo in 1999 with a Bachelor’s in Applied Science, Gallen Tsui joined Skylink as a System Engineer, later on serving as the R&D Manager.
