Kickstarter - Linkio Allows Any Electronic To Be Turned Into A Smart Device And Controlled Via Smartphone

Linkio founder Thibault Honegger has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise funds for a new home automation system that enables any electronic device to be controlled with a user's mobile phone.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ Today, Linkio founder Thibault Honegger has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise funds for a new home automation system that enables any electronic device to be controlled with a user's mobile phone. The complete Linkio system consists of Le Hub which speaks to Le Remote, Le Plug, and Le Switch.

The main component, Le Hub, links the consumer's mobile phone and their connected electronics and appliances. Le Plug includes three international inserts and enables any device it's plugged into to be controlled, or switched on and off, by the app. For example, a hair straightener that was accidentally left on can be turned off from anywhere using the app. Le Switch is designed to replace mechanical wall switches- it allows lights and ceiling fans to be controlled manually and by the app.

Le Remote turns a consumer's phone into a remote for their existing electronics, like A/C, televisions or DVD players, by syncing with an existing IR remote's sequence and displaying the buttons in the app, which allows people to have control of everything from just one place- their mobile device.

Honegger and his colleagues designed Linkio to help people ease into home automation, inexpensively. Linkio is perfect for consumers that aren't interested in purchasing an entire Smart Home ecosystem but would like the ability to control a few of their electronic devices from outside the home.

"Last year, my colleague would often have to travel home because he or his wife would forget to turn off electronics and appliances such as a hair straightener or the oven," said Honegger. "Linkio is for the consumer who wants to control the everyday items they already own and not have to purchase multiple smart home devices. We're not concerned with competing, or keeping up, with the large technology companies- at Linkio, we've found our niche and that is helping people make small, inexpensive changes have a serious impact on their daily lives."

Linkio is unique compared to other smart home systems for a number of reasons including the price point. The entire package costs 99, which is much less than other automation systems. Once a consumer purchases Le Hub, any other component can be added and used individually (starting from 19 for Le Plug). Additionally, Linkio is an independent system- it requires no monthly fee or server dependency. Linkio is also extremely mobile- if a consumer decides to move into a new home, there is no need to purchase a new smart home system.

Honegger and his colleagues have designed their system to be completely open- enabling developers to create new modules, essentially making Linkio completely customizable. All developers need to create additional modules is the inexpensive Developer Pack, which is currently available for 79 on the Kickstarter page(each additional individual Developer Pack is available for 10).

Consumers will be able to check the status of every product connected to Linkio via the Smartphone app- this means no longer worrying about whether or not the hair straightener is turned off. Linkio also allows users to set up "scenarios" or scheduled actions. For example, parents can ensure kids get their homework done by having all electronics shut off during study time- without ever being present in the house.

Honegger has set the funding goal at 50,000- once the campaign reaches this goal, he and his colleagues will be able to complete the certification process for Linkio as well as mass produce and ship the product. Some of the first campaign backers will be able to get the entire Linkio system for just 79.

Linkio will be running its Kickstarter campaign for the next 30 days. To learn more or to preorder the device, visit the campaign page here:
