Clare Controls Adds Linux-Based Controller, Z-Wave Support to ClareHome Line

New ClareOS controller and Z-Wave support open up greater opportunities for professional integrators

SARASOTA, Fla. - August 23, 2012 - Clare Controls, a provider of configurable and intuitive automated systems for residential and commercial applications, has announced the availability of a Linux-based ClareOS controller, as well as support for Z-Wave devices for use with the company's flagship home automation solution, ClareHome.

"Both of these announcements are aimed squarely at giving our dealers products that will allow them to compete effectively in broader markets," said Brett Price, CEO and founder of Clare Controls. "They dovetail perfectly with our core commitment to improve dealer efficiency."

The new Linux based ClareHome controller affords Clare Controls dealers the opportunity to offer the same world-class operating software on an aggressively priced hardware platform. It allows them to compete more aggressively for the jobs they bid, without sacrificing performance. The ClareHome system software's total platform independence lets dealers offer their customers the same system functionality and Apple iDevice user experience, running on the Intel-based Linux controller. The company intends to continue to offer the Mac mini, for customers who value the all-Apple/Mac solution and those who require more IP cameras or iDevices.

The addition of Z-Wave support opens a rapidly-expanding universe of services to projects integrated under ClareHome-each of which are designed to broaden the realm of functions that can be placed under users' automated control. Initial offerings include Schlage door locks and Z-Wave thermostats / humidistats.

The Clare Controls ClareHome Linux-based controller and Z-Wave support will make their official debut at the Clare Controls booth (#3150) at CEDIA EXPO 2012, held September 6-8 in Indianapolis, Ind. Initial dealer shipments of the Linux controller will commence in September. Dealers may contact Clare Controls for volume pricing. Z-Wave support will be available in Q4, 2012.

Universal Robots - Collaborative Robot Solutions

Universal Robots is a result of many years of intensive research in robotics. The product portfolio includes the UR5 and UR10 models that handle payloads of up to 11.3 lbs. and 22.6 lbs. respectively. The six-axis robot arms weigh as little as 40 lbs. with reach capabilities of up to 51 inches. Repeatability of +/- .004" allows quick precision handling of even microscopically small parts. After initial risk assessment, the collaborative Universal Robots can operate alongside human operators without cumbersome and expensive safety guarding. This makes it simple and easy to move the light-weight robot around the production, addressing the needs of agile manufacturing even within small- and medium sized companies regarding automation as costly and complex. If the robots come into contact with an employee, the built-in force control limits the forces at contact, adhering to the current safety requirements on force and torque limitations. Intuitively programmed by non-technical users, the robot arms go from box to operation in less than an hour, and typically pay for themselves within 195 days. Since the first UR robot entered the market in 2009, the company has seen substantial growth with the robotic arms now being sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.
