IDT Introduces Industry's First HD Audio Codec with Class-G Headphone and DDX Class-D Speaker Amps for Ultra-low Power Consumption

IDT's Latest Innovative Audio Technology Meets the Stringent Demands of Windows 8's Runtime D3 Low-power Standby Mode for Extended Battery Life in Notebooks and Tablets

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®) (NASDAQ: IDTI), the Analog and Digital Company™ delivering essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced that it has introduced the industry's first high-definition (HD) audio codec with integrated class-G headphone amplifier (amp) and DDX™ class-D speaker amp for ultra-low power consumption. IDT designed the innovative codec to meet the stringent requirements of Windows 8's low-power runtime D3 standby mode, extending battery life in next-generation notebooks and tablets.

The IDT 92HD95B is a four-channel HD audio codec (two stereo DACs, two stereo ADCs) with 24-bit resolution. The class-G headphone amp can reduce power consumption by up to 50 percent versus current-generation class-AB headphone amps, while the DDX speaker amp can reduce power by up to 70 percent versus standard class-D solutions. These significant power savings translate directly into longer battery life in any mainstream notebook or tablet design based on the HD audio bus.

The IDT 92HD95B features several integrated hardware functions that enhance audio performance, including a selectable frequency high-pass filter for speaker protection and a 10-band parametric equalizer for speaker optimization in a variety of operating scenarios. In addition, the audio codec includes a hardware-based compressor/limiter that allows for higher average volume levels without causing resonance or speaker damage.
