Corning to collaborate with Perceptive Pixel and Chilin Solutions
June 07, 2012 CORNING, N.Y.--Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced its plans for InfoComm 2012 in Las Vegas, June 9 - 15. The Corning booth, # N2551 North Hall, will highlight Corning® Gorilla® Glass' unique combination of beauty and toughness and its creation of exciting new possibilities for large-size displays - specifically for advanced multi-touch and digital signage products.
Corning will collaborate with Perceptive Pixel, the leading developer of advanced user interface solutions, to showcase Perceptive Pixel's 55-inch advanced multi-touch LCD display featuring Corning Gorilla Glass. Commercially launched on June 6, the 55-inch projected capacitive flat-panel LCD display is the latest in Perceptive Pixel's array of true multi-touch solutions to feature Corning Gorilla Glass. The display handles an unlimited number of touch points and works in concert with up to three active styluses for a fluid pen and touch experience. The unit is also optically bonded for near-zero parallax, eliminating the air gap that commonly causes inaccurate touches on other displays.
"Our 55-inch LCD joins our line of projected capacitive multi-touch displays that are optically bonded for a very natural and accurate touch experience," said David Slobodin, vice president hardware engineering, Perceptive Pixel. "With Corning Gorilla Glass, we were able to develop a very thin and lightweight yet durable product without compromising Perceptive Pixel's unparalleled touch experience."
Perceptive Pixel also will exhibit its newest display to feature Corning Gorilla Glass in its booth located at #N2227 North Hall.
Corning will also partner with Chilin Solutions, one of the world's leading providers of innovative display solutions, to exhibit a 55-inch Professional Grade LED Edge-Lit LCD Outdoor Monitor. In addition, Chilin Solutions will showcase a 70-inch display featuring Corning Gorilla Glass in its InfoComm suite.
"Performance and durability are key to the outdoor signage environment," said J.B. Daines, senior vice president, World Wide Sales, Chilin Solutions. "This is why we are pleased to demonstrate products with Corning Gorilla Glass that address the need for high-performance, thinner designs without compromising damage resistance."
These advanced multi-touch and digital signage solutions are well-suited for the public display market, which is growing due to increased penetration into the retail, hospitality, transportation, government and defense, media and entertainment, and education industries. NPD DisplaySearch projects a continued increase in production of large-size displays specifically for commercial use in its FPD Public Display Shipment and Forecast Report. Shipments of public displays - including digital signage - are projected to reach 3.1 million units in 2012, up 15 percent from 2011, with a forecasted 10-year compound annual growth rate of approximately 25 percent to reach 12 million units by 2018.
InfoComm attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the 55-inch displays from Perceptive Pixel and Chilin Solutions in Corning's booth.
"We encourage companies interested in large-format displays to visit our exhibit," said Dave Loeber, business director, Large Cover Glass, Corning. "We are pleased to collaborate with these industry leaders to demonstrate why Corning Gorilla Glass is an ideal cover glass. It's tough enough to handle the conventional external surface pressures inherent to these devices, yet remarkably thin so our customers can create lighter displays that are optically clear and visually stunning."
Corning Gorilla Glass is currently featured on more than 33 major brands and designed into more than 750 product models, resulting in more than 750 million units worldwide.
Further, Loeber will offer additional insights on large-format displays during the DisplaySearch Digital Signage Conference at InfoComm. He will present during the Digital Signage Supply Chain session at 9:40 a.m. PST, Tuesday, June 12. Loeber will review how Corning's latest innovations in consumer electronics and flat panel display glass will help solve some of the current issues in the audio-visual and digital signage industries.
