Fairchild Semiconductor's Boosted Class-D Amplifier Helps Mobile Device Designers Achieve Loud and Clear Sound While Extending Battery Life

Device Reduces Distortion; Prevents Early Phone Software Shutdown

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Longer battery life and high efficiency, driven by consumer demand for loud and clear speaker sound, are two of the challenges designers face when "Making Small Speakers Sound Louder and Better™" in their mobile device designs.

Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high performance power and mobile products, building on its growing portfolio of leading audio IP solutions, a world-class supply chain, and its recognized leadership as a value-added supplier to mobile device manufacturers, developed the FAB3103 2.3 watt class-D audio amplifier with integrated boost regulator and battery automatic gain control (AGC).

Suitable for use in mobile handsets, smart phones, and tablets, as well as portable media players, the FAB3103 has an integrated boost regulator that allows for high audio output power over a power supply range of 2.5V to 5.2V from a 3.6V Li-Ion battery.

At low power output, the device's boost regulator automatically shuts down for greater efficiency and lower quiescent current consumption, resulting in longer battery runtime. The FAB3103 audio amplifier also features battery automatic gain control (AGC) that reduces gain when the power supply voltage is low in order to limit maximum power consumption, reducing distortion and preventing early device shutdown.

Available in a 12-bump, WL-CSP, the FAB3103 device also offers several protection features including short circuit protection, low voltage shutdown, and click and pop suppression. Additionally, the low EMI design of the device allows for filterless operation with high noise rejection using differential audio inputs, improving sound quality.

Fairchild Semiconductor, a mobile technology leader, offers a substantial portfolio of analog and power IP that can be customized to meet specific design requirements. By integrating leading circuit technologies into tiny, advanced packages, Fairchild provides mobile users significant advantages while reducing the size, cost and power of designs. Fairchild's mobile IP can be found in a majority of handsets in use today.

ELK Products -C1M1 Dual-Path Alarm Communicators with Remote Services

C1M1 offers a truly significant reduction in transmission time in comparison to other communicators that rely on dial capture or data bus decoding. This can result in quicker response time to emergency situations which could save lives and assets. By providing both IP and cellular pathways, C1M1 provides the reliability installers are looking for in an alarm communicator. C1M1 eliminates port forwarding and extra fees for remote access. Installers can remotely upload/download programming changes to M1 controls over IP or cellular using ElkRP2. Consumers can control the M1 remotely via the free ElkLink mobile app and web portal, as well as eKeypad and M1 Touch Pro apps. Other IP-based software and interface partners can connect to the M1 control over the local network through C1M1. C1M1 also provides email/text notifications for arm, disarm, and alarm events. ELK-C1M14GSM supports GSM (AT&T/T-Mobile) networks and ELK-C1M1CDMA supports CDMA (Verizon) networks.
