Parks Associates' Home Systems Research Director Bill Ablondi will participate in three key events at the 2011 ConnectivityWeek Conference May 23 -25, Santa Clara, California. The events include the Consumer Symposium, the "Home Consumers See Value" Panel, and the "Service Providers Make the Case" Panel.

Parks Associates forecasts 17% of U.S. households will have some form of in -home display for monitoring energy consumption by 2015. By 2021, nearly 50% of households will have an energy management network.

What:

Bill Ablondi is participating as an expert panelist during Consumer Symposium: "Kickoff Roundtables."
May 23, 11:30 AM - 12 PM

Leading market researchers and other experts will facilitate roundtable discussions. Questions to explore: What are the fundamental challenges for consumer engagement? What needs to change to enable stakeholder understanding of consumer concerns? How do we move from entrenched positions to collaborating on practical solutions? What can each of us do to change the tone of the dialogue?

Bill Ablondi is moderating the session "How Consumers See Value."
May 24, 1:30 - 3:00 PM

This panel session focuses on the factors that motivate consumers to adopt energy management solutions. Parks Associates' research shows that not all have the same level of desire to better manage their energy consumption. What motivates early adopters, and why haven't many of these already purchased systems?

Bill Ablondi is moderating the session "Service Providers Make the Case."
May 25, 1:30 - 3:00 PM

This session explores utility and service provider perspectives on how best to satisfy smart grid communications requirements while bringing new energy management and related applications to consumers.

Universal Robots - Collaborative Robot Solutions

Universal Robots is a result of many years of intensive research in robotics. The product portfolio includes the UR5 and UR10 models that handle payloads of up to 11.3 lbs. and 22.6 lbs. respectively. The six-axis robot arms weigh as little as 40 lbs. with reach capabilities of up to 51 inches. Repeatability of +/- .004" allows quick precision handling of even microscopically small parts. After initial risk assessment, the collaborative Universal Robots can operate alongside human operators without cumbersome and expensive safety guarding. This makes it simple and easy to move the light-weight robot around the production, addressing the needs of agile manufacturing even within small- and medium sized companies regarding automation as costly and complex. If the robots come into contact with an employee, the built-in force control limits the forces at contact, adhering to the current safety requirements on force and torque limitations. Intuitively programmed by non-technical users, the robot arms go from box to operation in less than an hour, and typically pay for themselves within 195 days. Since the first UR robot entered the market in 2009, the company has seen substantial growth with the robotic arms now being sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.
