Leading Speaker Manufacturer's Muon Loudspeaker and Universal Wireless System Named Finalists for Highly Coveted Industry Award
Marlboro, N.J. - February 6, 2008 - KEF, renowned British manufacturer of audiophile -quality speakers and world -class home theater speakers, has announced that the Muon loudspeaker and Universal Wireless System have each been selected as 2008 TechHome® Mark of Excellence Award finalists in their respective categories. The state -of -the -art Muon, created by industrial design visionary, Ross Lovegrove, was recognized in the "Best Speaker - Freestanding Speakers" category while the Universal Wireless System, a simple plug -and -play kit, which converts virtually any standard speaker system into a wireless configuration, was named a finalist in the "Best Wireless Product" category.
"Having both the Muon and the Universal Wireless System recognized as TechHome Mark of Excellence Award finalists is an honor," said Alec Chanin, president of KEF America. "At KEF, we strive to provide the absolute best in high -performance audio, and the Muon and Universal Wireless System, both of which we are extremely proud to have in our lineup, speaks to the diversity and excellence of our engineering efforts and KEF's vision for the twenty -first century marketplace for high quality audio".
The Mark of Excellence Awards program, presented by CEA's TechHome Division, recognizes the best in custom home electronics products, services and installed technology and represents only the most recent among KEF's numerous accolades for both the Muon and the Universal Wireless System.
Standing nearly seven feet tall, the Muon loudspeaker is made from super -formed aluminum, which uses a similar molding process to vacuum forming. Using malleable sheets of heated aluminum to achieve otherwise impossible shapes, the eventual form of the loudspeaker was the result of a careful convergence between Lovegrove's design aesthetics and the physics of sound. The process by which it was conceived meant that, in effect, Lovegrove was sculpting the sound by 'skinning' the technology with purposeful form.
With powerful bass drivers, Muon's four -way speaker system - mounted into the front of the structure - is one of the elements that makes it so superior. The upper mid -range and treble are where Muon's key technologies lie in the form of the Uni -Q® drive unit array. Remarkable in its construction, the Muon delivers a seamless sonic picture throughout the listening environment.
With the Universal Wireless System, KEF engineers set out to eliminate one of the most frustrating necessities in consumer electronics - the speaker wire. KEF Universal Wireless System utilizes proprietary technology to deliver CD -quality audio without the burden of drilling holes through the walls or tripping over long unsightly cables.
Consisting of two receivers and a transmitter, the Universal Wireless System fits a variety of applications. In order to achieve robust audiophile -grade sound, KEF has developed leading -edge 2.4GHz wireless transmission technology that uses the most advanced error -protection and sophisticated adaptive frequency -hopping to ensure an interference -free signal. This proprietary technology is pre -emptive and will change channels automatically to a pre -negotiated frequency (within the best available band) before any errors begin to occur. CD -quality audio will not be affected by microwave ovens, cordless phones or LAN routers.
TechHome Mark of Excellence winners will be announced Friday, March 14th at EHX Spring 2008 in Orlando, Fla.
