Two new receivers for CAT6 cable

Receivers with an integral skew compensation

Smart -e has launched two new HD compatible receivers with an integral skew compensation to overcome problems when distributing signals via CAT6 cabling over long distances.

The new receivers named the Smart -e SLX -RX211and the Smart -e SLX -RX212, accept, via a single CAT 6 cable, high resolution video and stereo audio signals from up to 300 metres away, and are designed for use in AV systems throughout the residential, corporate and public sectors. The integrated skew compensation provides an efficient way of coping with signal delays due to differently twisted pairs within a single CAT6 cable.

Integrated skew compensation overcomes problems incurred with signal delay
The specification for CAT6 cable requires the pairs within the cable to be twisted to different ratios. This variation in twist ratios produces a difference in cable length for each pair. Differences in cable length produce what is called 'skew delay' when identical signals are sent down all the pairs, and can be up to a maximum of 45 ns per 100m of cable.

This effect creates a problem when transmitting RGB signals down Cat 6 cable as they arrive at different times. This relative delay, when combined with reduced pixel size as a result of today's higher resolution picture quality, accentuates any colour divergence, producing colour separation on screen. The visual effect is best a dull or out -of -focus image and at worst separate red, green and blue images of each object. Traditionally, this has been overcome by inserting a separate unit, however the two new receivers from Smart -e have this facility integrated within the one unit, saving time, money and space.

Packed with features
As well as the integrated skew compensation, the two new receivers feature component output, inline power capability, receive up to 1600 x 1200 UXGA resolution, RGBS, YUV, Y/C, CVBS, Stereo Audio and IR/RS232, and support 300Mhz bandwidth. The receivers combine the ease of 'plug and play' with discreet industry standard connectors, have multiple features, are HD compatible and incredibly compact, in fact they are the same size as a receiver without the facility. Installation is made easy with software control with RGB adjustments shown on illuminated LEDs.

The 211 version has one VGA output whilst the 212 version features two VGA outputs, an advantage when there is a requirement for back -to -back plasma screens, often used in public areas such as shopping malls.
