Anchor Bay Technologies Launches VRS Brand of Video Processing Solutions

Proprietary Video Reference Series (VRS) branded technologies are now available to OEM partners seeking reference standard video processing solutions.

CAMPBELL, CALIFORNIA - - May 10, 2006 - - Anchor Bay Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of system and semiconductor video processing solutions is once again setting the benchmark for video quality with the launch of its Video Reference Series (VRS) brand and Precision Deinterlacing™ technology.


'VRS is the culmination of Anchor Bay's efforts to achieve higher video performance through a combination of proprietary technologies,' said C.H. Chee, ABT's vice president of technology. 'Precision Deinterlacing joins our Precision Scaling technology to deliver our customers state -of -the -art video processing solutions." A new logo has been designed for use by manufacturing partners to display on products featuring VRS to let their customers know they are buying a product that includes the reference standard in video processing.

VRS Precision Deinterlacing delivers the image quality demanded by today's large -screen, high -resolution displays. It eliminates many of the artifacts found in common deinterlacers to produce a smooth image, free of artifacts such as jagged edges and combing. VRS Precision Deinterlacing features five -field motion -adaptive deinterlacing and edge -adaptive processing for video sources, along with advanced cadence detection for film and animation sources. All processing is performed at full 10 -bit resolution to preserve all the detail and subtle nuances in the video source. Edge -adaptive processing uses an adaptive, continuous -angle detection algorithm to accurately identify and smooth image edges.

Unique, 'any -cadence' processing automatically locks to the wide variety of film and animation cadences found in current video sources, including non -standard cadences, and will track right through many types of 'bad edits' and cadence changes. VRS Precision Deinterlacing also features operating modes for special video applications, such as low -latency processing for video games.

In its first application, VRS Precision Deinterlacing technology will be integrated into the Precision Deinterlacing daughter card available to DVDO customers for the iScan™ VP30. "As with all of our technologies, we are delighted to offer the newest member of our VRS family of technologies to our DVDO system customers first. Anchor Bay will be rolling out other VRS solutions, such as detail enhancement and MPEG noise reduction, in both their semiconductor and DVDO brand systems throughout 2006," noted Chee.

Anchor Bay's Precision Video Scaling™ technology is based on Anchor Bay's proprietary video scaling engine that can independently scale an image horizontally and vertically to achieve an outstanding picture quality for today's high resolution video displays. The scaling engine is completely flexible, accepting standard definition (480p, 576p) and high definition (720p and 1080i) inputs and outputting any resolution from VGA (640x480) to 1080p (1920x1080) with multiple standard and custom aspect ratios. Since the scaling engine is completely flexible, other image manipulation features are also supported including zoom, pan and border controls.

Anchor Bay's RightRate™ technology converts the input frame rate to the optimal display frame rate without causing 'tearing' in the output frame. Anchor Bay's frame rate conversion technology supports higher frame rates to eliminate flicker in CRT front projectors. In addition, this technology converts film sources in 50 Hz and 60Hz standards to 75Hz and 48Hz, 72Hz respectively to remove uneven motion judder.

Anchor Bay's AutoCUE -C™ technology automatically detects and removes chroma artifacts caused by incorrect up -sampling of the chroma (color) signals by MPEG decoders in DVD players and satellite receivers. These artifacts are especially noticeable as horizontal streaks in images with highly saturated colors. When these artifacts are removed, the picture quality of the images is significantly improved.

Anchor Bay's Precision AV LipSync™ technology automatically delays the audio signal to match the video processing delay in DVDO products. As a result, the AV lip -sync problem that is caused by video processing delay is eliminated. The audio delay can also be further adjusted to correct the AV lip -sync problem that may be already be present in the AV source.
