Adds XM Radio capability, enhanced iPod compatibility, more power, more connections, same price

UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ (10/05/05) - - Onkyo has announced immediate shipment of the TX -SR603X A/V receiver, which replaces the company's best selling TX -SR602 and adds XM Ready satellite radio capability, enhanced compatibility with the company's DS -A1 iPod control dock, and increased power output. The new model features complete 7.1 -channel processing, component video upconversion with time base correction (TBC), 100 MHz component video switching, 7 x 90 watts of power, and a flexible suite of multi -source/multi -zone capabilities.

The TX -SR603X is one of Onkyo's new XM -Ready home theater receivers, making it easier than ever to bring XM Satellite radio into the living room., Now consumers can subscribe to and receive 150 channels of commercial -free music, news, talk, and entertainment programming with the addition of one of the widely available XM Connect -and -Play antennas. The unit also includes a high quality analog radio tuner and features 40 presets for AM, FM, or XM stations.

Onkyo has also designed the receiver to take complete advantage of the company's recently introduced DS -A1 Remote Interactive iPod dock/charger. With the iPod placed in the dock, it becomes a source component for not only audio playback, but also for photography stored in iPod photo units. Controls for the iPod such as play, pause, stop, skip, random and playlist access can all be operated via the TX -SR603X's preprogrammed learning remote control.

The TX -SR603X includes an automatic speaker setup feature that makes calibrating a home theater system to its acoustical environment simple and fast. With the included microphone in the listening position, the receiver sends test signals to each speaker in turn, then uses the input from the microphone to adjust channel level and time delay settings for each speaker.

The Onkyo TX -SR603X includes three component video inputs, including 100 MHz switching to prevent any degradation with high definition and progressive scan video signal. Additionally, there are five S -Video and five composite video inputs to accommodate other sources. All video signals are upconverted to 480i component video with time base correction, eliminating the need for redundant video connection to modern video displays.

The TX -SR603X features an advanced 32 -bit DSP circuit for digital processing, and high quality Linear PCM 192 kHz/24 -bit DACs for all channels. Onkyo's exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuit) is used for superior D/A conversion, generating a smoother analog output that is virtually free of pulse noise. It is capable of Dolby Digital EX, and DTS -ES decoding, as well as Dolby ProLogic IIX and DTS Neo:6 processing for full 7.1 -channel surround sound from any stereo or multichannel source. There are a total of six digital audio inputs, as well as five A/V and two audio -only analog inputs. One A/V input, including optical digital jack, is located on the front panel for easy connection of A/V or audio devices such as a camcorder or portable mp3 player.

The TX -SR603X also features Onkyo's Powered Zone 2 capability, which can be used to power stereo speakers in a second room while listening to 5.1 -channel sound in the main zone thanks to a dedicated set of zone 2 L/R speaker terminals. The receiver is capable of processing separate multichannel and stereo sources simultaneously for the main and second zone, or processing a single source for both. There is also a zone 2 pre -out that can be used in conjunction with a dedicated zone amplifier or receiver.

The TX -SR603X is currently available in black and silver finishes at a suggested retail price of $500.
