New LAT Series Combines New Drivers And More Sophisticated Crossovers For Increased Resolution And Low Frequency Capacity

Las Vegas, NV - CES Jan 6 - 9, LVCC South 2, Booth # 26111 & 25705 - Krell Industries introduces a significant redesign to their award winning Lossless Acoustic Transducer (LAT) Series of loudspeakers. The LAT -1000, LAT -2000 and LAT -C1000 feature new drivers, retuned enclosures and improved crossover networks to create the most dynamic and musical speaker system ever devised.

The premise behind the original LAT Series was to create a loudspeaker that could reproduce the full frequency spectrum that the amplifier presented it with without adding coloration. In effect, this goal was achieved and the LAT Series was lauded as a technological breakthrough in loudspeaker design at the time. Never one to rest on his laurels, Krell founder and CEO Dan D'Agostino wondered if he could achieve even more visceral impact by experimenting with different driver cone materials. In the end, Dan went to world -renowned driver manufacturer ScanSpeak to provide Krell with state -of -the -art drivers, including an exclusive 8 -inch aluminum woofer available only on the LAT -1000.

Along with the three 8 -inch aluminum woofers on the LAT -1000 are a 1 -inch ScanSpeak tweeter that provides superior high frequency detail over the original, and two 5.25 -inch magnesium -cone ScanSpeak midrange drivers with high -excursion rubber surrounds and a phase plug for improved mid -band clarity. "It wasn't enough for us to simply throw some new drivers in the original LAT cabinets and call it a new speaker," commented Dan. "With the new LAT Series I wanted to throw down the gauntlet and create a speaker system without equal".

New drivers necessitate new crossovers, and Krell spared no expense in designing a crossover network that would act as a natural extension of their amplifiers. In each LAT loudspeaker the crossover spans almost the entire length of the inside cabinet and features a second order low pass Bessel filter on the woofers and mid -range drivers and a third order Butterworth filter on the tweeter. The 8 -inch woofer on the LAT -1000 required a completely redesigned port - the result is a new 30 -inch long aluminum port that helps lower the bass frequency response by 1/3 octave.

The LAT -2000 is a 2 -way monitor speaker utilizing the same 1 -inch tweeter and 7 -inch mid -bass driver. Designed to serve as the front -center loudspeaker in a multi -channel surround -sound system, the LAT -C1000 features a driver complement nearly identical to that of the LAT -1000. Also a 3 -way design, the LAT -C1000 employs five drive units: one tweeter, two midrange drivers, and two woofers.

Aluminum is good for more than just driver design - all of the new LAT Series speakers feature massive, all aluminum cabinet designs that range from .75 -inches thick to 1.5 -inches thick. Not only does this add significantly to the speaker's weight (the LAT -1000 weighs in at just over 250 -lbs each!) but to the structural rigidity and resonance dampening characteristics of the cabinet. Unlike wood, or any wood derivative, the LAT's aluminum cabinets are sonically inert and do not detract from the sonic characteristics of the loudspeakers.

The new LAT Series loudspeakers are just one component of Krell's High -End Audio Theater (HEAT™). Together with their Class A, Master Reference or Evolution Series components Krell HEAT brings high performance audio and video to the next generation of home entertainment enthusiasts.

Available in black or silver, the LAT -1000, LAT -2000 and LAT -C1000 are $49,500/pair, $12,500 and $24,950 respectively. All are expected to ship late Q1.
