Sonance, the leader in architectural audio, introduced the iPort™, the first in-wall docking station for the Apple® iPod that lets the iPod`s music play over any whole-home audio system. The iPort accepts all current models of iPods.
Increasing the versatility of the world's most popular portable audio player, Sonance, the leader in architectural audio, today introduced and demonstrated the iPort™, the first in -wall docking station for the Apple® iPod that lets the iPod's music play over any whole -home audio system. The iPort, which the company says will ship this month, accepts all models of iPods and is compatible with all of Sonance's systems, components, and accessories. As new iPod models are introduced Sonance will develop accessories to fit them.
"The iPod is an icon, a symbol of status and personal freedom," said Mitch Witten, Sonance Vice President of Sales & Marketing. "The iPort is the first product that lets it slip seamlessly into a home audio system. It's a great new accessory for existing multi -room systems as well as for new installations, in one room, or in every room of the house."
The basic concept behind iPort was a simple one. "We think people who walk into a house listening to their iPod should be able hear that music on the music system in the room they walk into, or throughout the home. Just walk over, drop your iPod in the iPort, and your entire music library is now part of the audio system, whether you're at home or at a friend's house," Witten said.
iPort Provides Battery Charging and Remote Control
Witten said the iPort is designed to match the iPod's contours and styling while providing an ergonomic, secure, in -wall cradle for the player. The iPort also provides the electronic interface for audio, control, and power signals, so that the player responds to both remote control and front panel operating commands and charges its battery while docked. When used in a home audio system, iPort even allows iPod operation from any room that is part of a distributed audio system.
"iPod™ is the world's most popular digital music player with a huge variety of more than 200 third party accessories," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of iPod Product Marketing. "Sonance has broken new ground with the creation of the iPort, the first in -wall docking station to offer iPod customers a seamless way to easily listen to their entire music collection throughout their entire home."
For fast, reliable in -wall installation, the iPort chassis employs Sonance's RotoLock® mounting system. Each iPort is shipped with a custom install accessory kit that contains all the hardware and cables required for a complete installation for all iPod models. Witten said iPort works with whole -home audio systems from Sonance as well as other manufacturers.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the in -wall iPort with custom install accessory kit is $598. Installation and Apple products are additional.
