Men Want TiVo™ More
Dallas, Texas August 6th, 2004 - Male heads -of -household are more likely than their female counterparts to buy a personal video recorder (PVR) over the next year, according to the upcoming report Video -on -Demand and PVR: Analysis and Forecast from Parks Associates. In a recent survey, 21% of male heads -of household said they are likely to purchase a PVR in the next 12 months, compared with just 16% of female heads -of -household.
"Men are more inclined to buy new entertainment products and services," said John Barrett, director of research at Parks Associates. "For example, male heads -of -household are slightly more likely to subscribe to digital cable or use a video -on -demand service. Once women become familiar with such products and services, however, spending patterns change. Take DVD players, for example. Male headed -households are more likely to own a DVD player today but female -heads of households are more likely to buy one, simply because they are later adopters. We will likely see a similar trend with PVRs. Men will buy first, then women."
