Ucentric and Samsung Trial Whole Home Music 1.0 with Comcast

First digital home music application to be included in Comcast networked home trial

Maynard, Mass. - Jan. 5, 2004 - Ucentric Systems, a leading provider of home media networking software and services for the new digital home, will trial its recently unveiled Whole Home Music 1.0 with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., and Comcast, the country's leading cable and broadband communications provider.

Ucentric's whole home music application allows consumers to easily access their digital music collection using any TV and direct the music playback to any set of networked speakers, including TVs, PCs, or stereos, in any room in the house. The whole home music trial is scheduled to launch later this month and is an extension of the ongoing multi -TV DVR (digital video recorder) trial with Comcast and Samsung that was announced in the spring and currently is taking place in the Philadelphia area.

"We're pleased with the opportunity to expand our existing relationship with Comcast in bringing a networked music entertainment experience to complement the whole -home multi -TV DVR solution," said Michael Collette, chief executive officer, Ucentric Systems. "We believe that bringing consumers a music application that they can use to easily operate and play digital music in any room in the house with the click of a remote is an important product offering in building the new digital home."

Ucentric Whole Home Music 1.0 is integrated into set -top boxes and consumer electronic devices and is designed specifically for in -home storage, access and playback of digital music files. It automatically discovers and aggregates all the digital music files stored on networked appliances, giving consumers whole -home access to all music resources in their home.

"The Ucentric music application is a natural extension of our multi -TV DVR trial, with both applications focusing on delivering a dynamic whole -home entertainment solution for our customers," said Steve Craddock, senior vice president of New Media Development for Comcast. "We are pleased to be able to work with Ucentric and Samsung to trial this very innovative and exciting service."

In May of 2003, Comcast, Samsung and Ucentric announced plans for a joint field trial of networked digital home applications and services with a limited number of Comcast customers in the Philadelphia area. The trial uses Samsung`s digital set top boxes incorporating Ucentric`s Digital Home Software Suite to deliver a host of new services, including Ucentric's Multi -TV DVR solution, Whole Home Broadband and now Whole Home Music 1.0. The Samsung set -top boxes provides a feature -rich platform that MSOs can use to deliver new services throughout the home, opening up new revenue opportunities for MSOs and new media experiences for the consumer.
