Anyone in your house with an iPhone, iPad, iPad touch or computer can control your home theater. RedEye connects simultaneously to multiple iPhone, iPad or iPad touch devices – separately or all at once. If you have multiple RedEye units in your home, configure one or more iOS devices or PCs with those RedEye units and control them all at the same time.

If you're like me, you have more than several remote controls in your home. We have our fair share… 16 that I can think of at the moment. That's four televisions, four DVD players, four cable boxes and four miscellaneous A/V remotes. We now have a great solution that allows us to have a custom remote control solution for each room.

RedEye universal remote controls by ThinkFlood are the perfect solution. RedEye hardware adds infrared capability to your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad so that you can control thousands of devices, from TVs and cable boxes to lighting systems, air conditioners and more. RedEye hardware adds infrared capability to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or computer. The hardware works along with a free application available from iTunes (http://thnkfld.com/gaHFob).

You can use RedEye to group your devices together into activities based on how you use them. One tap launches an activity, and each activity has its own, fully customizable button layout. The device comes with a database of more than 65,000 infrared control codes, templates for activity layouts, and easy programming right from your iOS device – which means you can get up and running quickly.

How does it work?

The RedEye hardware is a Wi-Fi to infrared bridge with an available built-in iPhone charging cradle. The RedEye cradle is compatible with nearly all iPhones and iPod Touches with the included dock adapters. RedEye uses an infrared signal to control your devices, but talks to your iOS devices and PCs by connecting to your home 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi network.

RedEye automatically synchronizes information across all your devices, so you can pick up right where the last person left off. You can even take control when you are away from home using VPN or port forwarding.

One item of note is that the RedEye comes configured for its own wireless network. For maximum benefit, I recommend changing the RedEye configuration to join your existing home network. This gives your iOS device the ability to access the whole house network, including Internet, as well as the RedEye unit.

Features

Using the RedEye on your home network also means access to the products full-featured channel guide integrated in the free RedEye app that you must download from iTunes. Once it's configured, you can control your RedEye hardware from any iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or a browser on your computer. That's right; with RedEye, you can use your computer as a remote control.

One touch launches any activity – watch TV, listen to music, play a video. Custom screen layouts for each activity mean you never have to hunt for the right button.

The RedEye app gives you the ability to enable and customize multi-touch and motion gestures to control your TV. This is a fun feature, just flick your iPhone left or right and adjust the volume.

ThinkFlood is always updating the RedEye application giving their customers free software updates, the ability backup their configuration to a PC and even whole house control for a fraction of the price of other professional systems.

The RedEye is packed with features and the hardware is inexpensive when compared to more static remotes that don't offer features like browser compatibility and an in-app full-color channel guide.

It may sound complicated, but it functions pretty transparently, and the home-room/ base-station concept means you can use RedEye’s app anywhere in a multi-room system as long as your Wi-Fi signal is strong. With just about endless customizability, first-rate graphics, and intelligently ergonomic layout and implementation, RedEye (retailing for $188 at http://thinkflood.com/products/redeye/).
