Product Data & Project Templates

Until the time that there is an accepted product information standard, it is still possible to organize your design, sales and installation processes into standardized business systems that are predictable, repeatable and profitable.

Public Hot Spots: One Truth and Two Myths

Most hot-spot service providers agree that the majority of this market's early adopters are and will continue to be so-called road warriors. These people travel nationally or internationally for professional purposes, and while on the road, they need Internet connections to access their corporate networks and e-mail.

Standards Schmandards

Standards provide a level playing field for both the builder and the installer. They also provide a uniform and predictable infrastructure for the customer. The question is not whether standards will become universal, its when. Builders and installers that strictly implement standards now will develop their reputations early. Installers that skirt standards now will also be developing reputations.

The Market For Ultra-Wideband Solutions

We readily acknowledge the challenges inherent in forecasting a networking solution as broadly-positioned as UWB. However, we simultaneously would caution against the over-hype that has been associated with previous "revolutionary" technologies.

ZigBee Technology: Wireless Control that Simply Works

Up till now there hasn't been a wireless network standard that meets the unique needs of sensors and control devices. Sensors and controls don't need high bandwidth but they do need low latency and very low energy consumption for long battery lives and for large device arrays.

Maverick Powerline 4-Port Bridge

Hook up of the two hubs was as simple as plugging them into an available wall socket and connecting all the network cables to the hubs. After that was done the two hubs automatically found each other and transferring data through my AC wiring was up and running.

Catching Customers w/ Home Nets, Part 1

One reason service providers are big on home networks - the belief they'll create more "sticky" customers. Once you've gone through the trouble of getting the network installed, you feel invested in the company.

Catching Customers w/ Home Nets, Part 2

Customer stickiness, more service revenues, and customer demand for networking to share that high speed connection to multiple PCs is the common refrain coming from Ma Bell as to why they are interested, which sounds a lot like that of the cable guys.

Digital America 2003

Don't be afraid: Try WiFi

To sum it up WiFi rocks! Don't be afraid to give it a try at your home or office, as you'll ooh and ahh every time you plop down in that Adirondack chair on your deck with your laptop or check your email while waiting for your delayed flight at the airport.

ECS (Event Control System) 2.2.51

I had reviewed the legacy version of ECS in August of 2000 and was asked to have a look at the redesigned Object-Oriented version (now at 2.2.51). Omnipotence has just recently introduced this version to the residential market, having been focused exclusively on the commercial/industrial markets for the last 2 years. ECS Automation Logo

Home Gateway Applications and Personalities

With the increased penetration of broadband and with the technological advances in home networking, there is a considerable market demand for the home gateway devices. Currently the applications such as Internet connection sharing, file/print sharing and VPN are driving the sales of Home Gateway boxes, but soon these gateway boxes will be available with Voice, Multimedia and other functionalities also.

Low cost wireless at 2.4GHz

The nRF24xx family has already been incorporated in a number of new and existing wireless global applications such as sensor, remote control, mouse, game controllers, tire pressure sensors and intelligent sports equipment applications.

Part 6 - Weather Station

Covered in this article: - Powerline Networking - Wireless Network Hubs - New Multi-room Sources .. An old VCR and a PC streaming internet audio. - A wireless weather station with touchscreen display

SLIMP3 Network Audio Player

The SLIMP3 player works great and navigating through my large mp3 directory wasn't a problem because I could jump to a specific letter or compile a play list. Streaming over the power line network has worked out great and I haven't once heard a click or a pause because of a network problem.
