Companies are also making their products more attractive to consumers by making them interoperable with other suppliers’ products. The growth potential was underscored by a Parks Associates survey that found almost 20 percent of U.S. broadband households own at least one smart-home device, and a lot more consumers want them. About 49 percent of all broadband households plan to buy a smart-home product in the next 12 months, Parks found. Among consumers who own a security system, that percentage jumps to 65 percent. “Security households, rather than being content with their current system, have a proclivity to add more smart features to their home,” said Parks president Stuart Sikes. Broadcast Technology Innovators Team Up for Live Demonstrations of ATSC 3.0 End-to-End Workflows at the 2016 NAB Show
At the 2016 NAB Show, Digital Alert Systems, Dolby(R), GatesAir, Harmonic, LG Electronics, Triveni Digital, and Zenith are teaming up to demonstrate live end-to-end ATSC 3.0 workflows for a range of the broadcast capabilities such as 4K and high dynamic range (HDR). Multiple programs of live and prerecorded streams will be displayed in 4K resolution with HDR, delivered at a frame rate of 60 fps along with next-generation audio. The demonstrations will be the first time that broadcasters can observe eight of the nine core ATSC 3.0 technologies being standardized to provide advanced electronic programming/service guides (EPG/ESG), intelligent HDR to standard dynamic range (SDR) conversion for legacy DTV, and other new services and media types supported by the next-generation broadcast television system.
