Back to wires? How did that happen?

With the truly robust 200-Mbps HomePlug AV standard-based PLC technology, home networks are established instantly with plug-and-play simplicity. It is the reason why service providers worldwide are having this proven technology embedded into their gateways, PVRs and set-top boxes.

Classic Home Toys Installment #9 - Coleco Strikes Back

Colecovision's reign as king of the video game kingdom was short lived. Though the system sold well, Colecovision was reluctant to invest in original game design and relied heavily, if not almost entirely, on games brewed from arcade classics.

Content Insider #76 - - DRM - Keeping the Treasure Hidden or Opening the Mountain

"Conscience. What a thing. If you believe you got a conscience it'll pester you to death. But if you don't believe you got one, what could it do t'ya? Makes me sick, all this talking and fussing about nonsense." -- Dobbs (Humphrey Bogart) - The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948)

Digital Hell

There are lots of theories about how and why new products achieve mass-market success. I'd like to offer my own little rule of thumb. No product will ever achieve mass-market success unless it inspires envy. People must look at the early adopters and want to become one.

Editorial Comments

It's already daylight saving time where I live. Did your PVR / Media Server / Home Automation Controller know about the change? A minor headache if not ... but a headache none the less. The more spoiled we become ... the more spoiled we want to become and the more dependent we get on technology. I'll leave it to philosophers to decide whether that is a good thing or not.

Home Theater Design Part 9 - Adjusting for Peak Performance

Now it's time to head to the fridge for a cold one, kick off those shoes, and see how many decibels you can make from the MI3 sound track before the neighbors come over for an intervention.

NuVision 47LCM1 Deep Black 1080p LCD HDTV Monitor

Being a sports fanatic my first test would be an NBA game in HDTV. NuVision Monitors display HDTV in 1080p, and the industries brightest panel provides a clear, bright and crisp picture superior to any others I have seen. With the fast NBA action no noticeable artifacts could be seen.

PLC - Memory Backup

The memory card is a recent method for memory backup. Some new PLCs provide a slot for a memory card. The PLC ladder application program can read and write to the memory card.

Power How-To #3

Dear Home Sketch Pad Experts, To rattle the rafters with the audio of my home theater, I recently purchased a very powerful, top-flight subwoofer and a 7.1 amplifier. When installing these, I noticed a warning in both manuals: "Do not use with a surge strip or power conditioner." I will of course follow the instructions, but I'm a little confused. Wouldn't I want to protect and amplify the performance of this equipment the same way that I would the rest of my components? What should I do instead? Sincerely, Confused in Connecticut
