B&W Moves Out With Three New Weatherproof Monitors

With three meticulously engineered new weatherproof models, B&W Loudspeakers, the British firm that holds a leading position worldwide in high-performance loudspeakers, is expanding its offering in outdoor / indoor monitors. Now you can select from a highly stylized range of increasing performance speakers for your baths, saunas, decks and patios; even pool rooms. The three new models, christened WM2, WM4, and WM6, share environmentally impervious enclosures and corrosion-proof materials throughout. Yet they call upon traditional B&W technologies to assure listeners of the kind of musical accuracy and dynamic performance expected of any B&W design, regardless of its place of intended use.

The WM6, flagship of B&W's new weatherproof trio, and the slightly smaller WM4 employ an especially developed version of the firm's famous Nautilus 1-inch metal-dome tweeter. This exploits a tapered-tube loading system to contribute an impressive degree of the clarity and definition of subtle musical details that make B&W's high-end Nautilus monitors the accepted world standard for uncompromising sound reproduction. The elegant but affordable WM2 employs an accurate, dynamic soft-dome tweeter.

All three models take advantage of a new, woven-fiberglass 5-inch cone bass/midrange unit that contributes smooth, tonally faithful mids and an extended low frequency range; in the WM6's slightly larger though still compact form, this translates to usable output down to an impressive 52 Hz.

The WM models' innovative vented enclosure enhances low-frequency performance with a clever port design that remains impervious to the weather. Their elegantly shaped cabinets, available in pearl white or black and accented by "tactile" surface contours and complementary moldings, are constructed entirely of waterproof, long-lived composites that will retain their top-quality finish appearance over decades of exposure to a wide range of moisture and temperature extremes. Integral mounting brackets make the WM designs easy to install whether wall, soffit, shelf, or exterior placement is chosen; those of the WM4 and WM6 feature tilt-and-swivel abilities in two dimensions.

The B&W WM2, WM4, and WM6 will be available this fall, at manufacturer's suggested retail prices of $300, $400, and $500/pr. respectively.

Two Additions Grow B&W Architectural Lineup

Audio industry leader B&W Loudspeakers has debuted two new additions to its range of architectural in-wall speakers. The CCM20 and CWM200 broaden the British firm's offerings in this rapidly growing category, while maintaining its well-established standards of sonic accuracy and unwavering quality.

The CCM20 is a round, ceiling-mount design ideal for casual spaces, hallways, and smaller rooms. Designed for easy installation in ceiling, wall, or soffit, it combines a 6.5-inch long-throw mid/bass driver with a coaxially located 1-inch dome tweeter for smooth, extended sound, with genuinely useful bass (its low-frequency limit is below 50 Hz) from the most compact possible package. The CCM20 requires a cutout of 8.1 inches diameter, and installation depth of just 2.9 inches.

At only modestly greater cost, the new CWM200 employs a conventional two-way configuration for high-performance sound, also with impressive bass extension to below 50 Hz. It arrays a 6.5-inch mid/bass driver and 1-inch dome tweeter in a compact frame, requiring a cutout just 11.1 by 7.7 inches with installation depth of 2.9 inches.

Both new B&W in-wall designs feature excellent sensitivity and impressive power-handling, combined with stable 8? nominal impedances to ensure fine performance and impressive dynamic potential from a wide range of systems. -over-

(Recommended amplification for both models is 20 to 130 watts, continuous on unclipped program signals.) Both models are pre-finished in semi-matte white, suitable for pre-painting or other custom-finishing. The CCM20 and CWM200 will be available immediately, at manufacturer's suggested retail prices of $200 and $300/pr. respectively.
