D-LINK ADDS REPEATER TO THE DWL-900AP+ TO EXTEND THE RANGE OF WIRELESS 802.11b NETWORKS

Existing Users Get A Free Firmware Upgrade For DWL-900AP+Bridging Access Point On D-Link Web Site @ www.dlink.com/dwl900ap+.

Irvine, CA, October 8, 2002 - D-Link, the worldwide leader in the design, development and manufacturing of high-performance wireless networking solutions, today announced that the D-Link AirPlus DWL-900AP+ 802.11b Bridging Wireless Access Point now has the capability to act as a repeater for other D-Link AirPlus and AirPro products, extending the wireless network range up to 50% further at no extra charge. It also has more monitoring capabilities with the addition of a site survey function. The D-Link DWL-900+ now ships with these new functions and is identified by the version 2.20 firmware. All existing D-Link customers with a DWL-900AP+ can now download the firmware absolutely free from www.dlink.com/dwl900ap+.

"This D-Link access point is the first affordable way to extend the distance of a wireless network," said Steven Joe, President of D-Link "Using this new DWL-900AP+ repeater feature saves hundreds of dollars and it is an easy way to significantly extend the range for D-Link enhanced 802.11b wireless networks.

"The free upgrade with these features for our existing family of networking users is the benefit they get from buying a D-Link product," continued Joe.

The new software function deploys the D-Link AirPlus DWL-900AP+ as a repeater when used in conjunction with either a wireless router or a second wireless access point. The new repeater function allows the D-Link AirPlus DWL-900AP+ to receive the signal from a wireless router or access point at up to 328 feet away and then to rebroadcast it to wireless clients on the outside edge of the network. The repeater capability creates a stronger and faster connection for wireless clients that are at the furthest extremities of the network. When set to run in the enhanced 802.11b mode the DWL-900AP+ delivers even higher performance at greater distances.

The new firmware repeater function supports wireless routers and access points in the D-Link AirPlus line of wireless networking products, as well as the enhanced 802.11b side of the D-Link AirPro line of dual band products.

The new upgrade includes a Site Survey tool for the network. It updates the web-based interface of the DWL-900AP+ allowing users to easily find wireless access points within range of the DWL-900AP+. The Site Survey tool will perform a search for wireless APs within range and display their MAC address in a window, along with an indicator that shows if WEP encryption has been implemented.
