D-LINK INTRODUCES ALL-IN-ONE 22MBPS WIRELESS ROUTER WITH BUILT-IN PRINT SERVER, 4-PORT SWITCH AND FIREWALL PROTECTION

Built-in Print Server
Increased Speeds of Up To 22 Mbps in the 2.4GHz Band
Combines 5 Products In One
Advanced Stateful Packet Inspection
Parental Control Features

Irvine, CA, October 31, 2002 —D-Link, the worldwide leader in manufacturing of Broadband, networking and digital electronic technologies, today announced its new D-Link AirPlus Enhanced 2.4GHz Wireless Broadband Router, the DI-714P+. With enhanced 802.11b+ (up to 22Mbps) speeds, the AirPlus DI-714P+ combines the elements necessary to build a high-performance wireless network: Broadband router, integrated wireless access point, built-in print server, 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch and hardware firewall. The DI-714P+ features a built-in print server so that multiple users can share a single printer over the network. As an all-in-one product, the D-Link AirPlus DI-714P+ is the ultimate in connectivity for the home and SOHO environment.

The integrated print server in the DI-714P+ provides a central print queue, relieving one of the networked PC’s from acting as the print server, thus freeing up valuable processing cycles and memory. The AirPlus DI-714P+ delivers excellent performance with twice the speed in B+ mode and up to a 20% increase in throughput within the popular 802.11b 11Mbps standard. Completely interoperable with all existing 802.11b compliant devices, the router can serve as several hardware elements within the wireless network: router, switch, access point, print server and firewall. The DI-714P+ router enables users to securely share files, Internet access and peripherals with multiple users and can be easily setup and managed through a simple setup wizard and convenient Web-based interface.

“This 714P+ adds a print server to an already proven award winning technology platform,” said Steven Joe, President of D-Link. “The AirPlus technology delivers performance and throughput speeds up to twice as fast as standard 802.11b wireless products.”

The DI-714P+ delivers the highest level of security by integrating Stateful Packet Inspection to ensure that incoming data is not malicious in nature. The DI-714P+’s integrated wireless router acts as a DHCP server to easily allow shared Internet access for up to 252 clients and includes a bi-directional LPT port to support a direct printer connection. Users connected to the wireless LAN can share a printer without using a PC as a print server. The DI-714P+’s built-in 802.11b+ access point delivers a high-speed (up to 22Mbps) 2.4GHZ Wireless LAN connection using Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) that is fully interoperable with all IEEE 802.11b compliant devices, and the four (4) built-in 10/100 Mb Auto-Negotiation full duplex Fast Ethernet Switch ports increase network access speed for client computers.

D-Link’s DI-714P+’s firewall provides a secure broadband connection to stop hackers in their tracks without sacrificing speed. The router’s Stateful Packet Inspection feature examines each inbound packet and rejects data not requested by a client on the network, making certain all inbound data is legitimate. The access point supports 64/128/256-bit WEP encryption for secure wireless transmission. Using the firewall feature, transmissions can be easily filtered for content based on MAC Address, IP Address and Domain Name. Once enabled, the DHCP server will automatically assign IP addresses to wireless clients, allowing other computers to access the router and Internet seamlessly. Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass through support is provided for multiple simultaneous IPSec, L3TP and PPTP sessions by the router’s NAT protocol. Network Address Translation (NAT) ensures a secure network, preventing outside intruders from gaining access to the information stored on the wired- and wirelessly-connected PCs and notebook computers. Additionally, advanced logging and filtering features provide information about the intruder to the administrator in order to take the appropriate precautions and actions.

The AirPlus DI-714P+ employs the basic parental control features of URL blocking, Domain blocking and IP address blocking, accessed through the Web-based configuration interface. URL blocking allows blocking of Web sites whose domain names contain specific blocked words. Domain blocking restricts access to specific Web site domain names and all related sub sites. IP address blocking allows restriction of Internet access during specified times of the day or indefinitely. Such controls allow a safe, secure connection for all clients without the abuse of Internet privileges.

Administrators and advanced users can ensure control of the network management, firewall and parental control features by using the advanced settings area of the DI-714P+’s user interface. The built-in Web server enables remote management capabilities with two levels of password protection – one for administrators and one for network clients. Administrators can monitor network access with the extended logging features and can deny or grant access to network resources using MAC address authentication. The firewall can even be set to block specific IP addresses or all outside traffic from accessing the network at any time.
