2netFX and Motorola Announce
Multicast HDTV over IP Streaming from 10 to 36 Mbps at Streaming Media West Show
HD Encoder Brings Practical Delivery Rates for HDTV to Standard Corporate
Networks
San Jose, CA --2net FX announced today that HDTV-over-IP is now available for purchase. The addition of a live high definition encoder from Motorola that is compliant with industry standard protocols, now enables High Definition Television (HDTV) content to be stored for later delivery or multicast in real time over standard corporate data networks, satellite and the Internet. The new technology will be demonstrated next week at Streaming Media West in the 2netFX Booth 630.
Marty Stein, Motorola's senior director of marketing for commercial business systems comments " Our goal at Motorola, is to design products that conserve bandwidth whenever possible and to maintain good broadcast quality at the lowest possible bit rates." He continues, "I feel that we have lived up to our goal in combining our HD broadcast encoder with HDTV-over-IP from 2netFX.
According to Yao, the HDTV-over-IP streaming technology, was over three years in development. With the help of TeraLogic and 3Com, 2netFX can now provide a vast array of advanced e-business applications for broadcast companies, telecom carriers, businesses, distance learning and institutions that use data networks to deliver services to employees, customers, and users.
Yao added that this breakthrough technology will transform the entertainment and information broadcast industry by offering a replacement for expensive and complex analog television transmissions. Using 2netFX software, HDTV digital video transmission will offer higher quality, greater interactivity, and flexibility than analog at a lesser cost and with lower bandwidth utilization.
HDTV is a digital television standard that offers high-resolution, superior video and DVD-quality sound distribution over cable TV lines and satellite TV systems. The new 2netFX technology permits the same HDTV standard (using the identical MPEG-2 MP@HL file format and compression standard specifications) to be used over commonplace corporate data networks and the Internet.
HDTV-over-IP enables Internet Service Providers, cable television companies and telecommunication carriers to base new services on HDTV technology, offering HDTV network services with higher resolution than today's video technologies, plus real-time quality of service.
This is a major advancement in the presentation of multimedia content and sets a new direction for leveraging the enhanced capabilities that broadband enables. Julia Rasekhi, Alliance Manager for 3Com's Solutions Lab states, "HDTV-over-IP is an extremely useful tool that people will use to create a visually stunning and content-rich, online e-Network experience. We expect it will also rapidly facilitate the general acceptance of HDTV."
Combining the innovative technologies of four leading companies paves the way for broadcasters, carriers, and service providers to offer compelling high-definition, broadband digital video and data services to the masses. Raghu Rao, director of marketing for TeraLogic, said, "The collaboration between 2netFX, 3Com, and TeraLogic gives us a clear technology leadership in enabling the distribution of HDTV content over a standard IP network."
Yao added, the four companies envision long-distance applications for next-generation high-speed Internets, such as Internet2 or MMDS/LMDS wireless access systems for homes. He added that 2netFX is also partnering with AirSwitch, World Wide Packets and others to deliver HDTV content to a multitude of homes that are now being equipped with 100 MB to1 GB ethernet connections.
About HDTV over IP:
HDTV-over-IP runs over an
industry-standard Ethernet LAN, using 3Com networking equipment, such as
SuperStack II Switch 3900 system and Fast EtherLink network interface card for a
desktop computer. Sť The HDTV video streaming was enabled by a Microsoft
NT-based server (Linux is also available) , TeraLogic's Janus single-chip HDTV
decoder board and software, as well as a specialized 2netFX HDTV-over-IP video
streaming server and client software. The software adheres to Microsoft's
standards-based DirectShow streaming video architecture.
