Polk Audio Improves Best-Selling Home Theater Satellite/Subwoofer Speaker System

Polk's lowest price system gets bigger woofer

Baltimore MD, USA - September 10, 2002 - Today Polk Audio introduced the new RM6005 six-piece, five-channel, home theater speaker system, featuring matched satellites and powered subwoofer. The RM6005 is an update of the Polk's best-selling RM6000 system released in 2001. The new model features an improved subwoofer for better performance.

RM6005 satellites fit in the palm of a hand, making them easy to place in any room without being visually intrusive. Their styling incorporates soft lines and a sculpted shape reminiscent of smoothed stone. RM6005 satellite and center enclosures are low-resonance injection molded ABS. The satellites are available in either black or titanium finish and the subwoofer is black.

The front and surround satellites employ 3-inch (75mm) midrange drivers and a half-inch (12mm) silk dome tweeter. The center speaker uses the same tweeter as the satellites and two mid drivers for improved power handling and dynamic range. With perfectly matched timbre on all five channels, the 360° soundstage is seamless and enveloping. All satellites are magnetically shielded.

The crossover features a small value Mylar bypass capacitor across the main (non-polar electrolytic) cap in the high-pass network to improve high frequency extension. RM6005 satellites (including center) feature integral keyhole slots for easy wall mounting and can accommodate optional fully articulating mounting brackets via a built-in threaded insert.

An all-new powered subwoofer is essential to the high performance of the new RM6005 system. Whereas the original RM6000 system used an 8-inch woofer, the new model boasts a 10-inch (25cm) driver for improved bass impact, extensions and reliability. A built-in 50-watt RMS amplifier powers the woofer. The enclosure is vented via a single port that is flared at both ends to minimize turbulence, port noise and distortion. The fully featured subwoofer is magnetically shielded, allowing consumers greater placement flexibility.

The RM6005 will be available in North America in September 2002.
