Ambisonic Sound Technologies, a manufacturer specializing in high-output, audiophile-quality loudspeakers and formerly known as Stix & Drums, today announced the introduction of their STX Series loudspeakers. The series consists of Column Line Array Loudspeakers that use True Coaxially-aligned mid-range and PMRD tweeters to create outstanding performance in a cost-effective, single-box solution. It also includes several high-impact, high-efficiency subwoofers designed to match with the Column Line Array loudspeakers, producing a full-range solution for professional installations and live events.

Company founder and CEO Jeffrey Coombs states, "We wanted to create a single-box line array solution that could be combined in a variety of configurations to cover almost any project, but we had high standards for sound quality. The sonic performance of the STX series is incredible, creating high-output audiophile sound like I've never heard before."

The Single-Box Column Line Array Loudspeakers utilize the company's advanced Planar Magnetic Ribbon Drivers (PMRD) and a high-power 6.5-inch custom, neodymium magnet driven, Kevlar/paper Mid-Woofer. The True Coaxial configuration of these drivers along with their unique Waveguide creates a wide, 110-degree horizontal coverage, while the Line Array affords improved front-to-back audience coverage to within +/- 2dB. The companion subwoofers, available with 12, 15 and 18-inch drivers, use massive motor structures and dual-layered voice coils to provide complementary high-impact low frequencies down to 34Hz.

"The STX series is purposely built for installers and integrators to provide a no compromise, cost-effective solution for their clients." Chief Technology Office Tom Harrison notes. "The speakers offer a small visual footprint as well as pristine audio quality with high output and true line array performance providing increased intelligibility in difficult, highly reverberant spaces."

The STX 6600, 6620, and 4625 Column Line Array models' outstanding performance starts with the advanced PMRD design. These ribbon drivers feature the lowest mass-moving system in the industry for unparalleled transient response and faithful signal reproduction. This results in silky-smooth sound that is fitting of high-end audiophile speakers. Thanks to an increased RMS to PEAK ratio that greatly improves dynamics, and a proprietary manufacturing process that utilizes a molecular bond between the aluminum and Kapton substrate for superior reliability, the driver is still able to belt out the high-output levels necessary for larger venues, while retaining that audiophile-like accuracy.

The tweeter is complemented by a proprietary mid-woofer design featuring a powerful, yet lightweight neodymium-magnet motor structure. The strength and lightness of the motor yields extremely low distortion in the critical mid-range frequencies that matches with the faithfulness of the ribbon tweeter. Weather-resistant Kevlar/paper cone material generates stiffness and durability with less coloration, while the entire low-mass, extremely balanced and stable moving system provides for more linear performance and high sensitivity.

But it's the integration of the ribbon tweeter and mid-woofer in a True Coaxial design that produces a perfectly symmetrical horizontal coverage pattern. Lower distortion is achieved due to the acoustic filter effect of having the tweeter placed in front of the woofer. Adding the company's unique waveguide design delivers 110-degrees of horizontal coverage. Finally, the line array configuration, aligned with Ambisonic Sound Technologies' own Array Optimization Software (AOS) allows the listener in the back row to hear the same sound level as the person in the front row, +/- 2dB.

Additionally, these single-cabinet Line Arrays are cost effective, lightweight and easy to install. The configuration of large arrays is easy when using multiples of straight and curved array cabinets. Multiple single cabinets can be wired in parallel using only one amplifier channel. Single cabinet Line Arrays also produce high output audiophile-quality sound with tightly controlled directivity for superior speech intelligibility in highly reverberant environments.

Ambisonic Sound Technologies also offers a full lineup of subwoofers to match with and complement the low frequencies of the Line Array Loudspeakers. The dual 12-inch, single and dual 15-inch and single 18-inch subwoofers use massive motor structures for high output, combined with dual-layered, inside/outside voice coils for exceptional heat dissipation and reliability. The efficient bass reflex enclosures are uniquely braced for maximum output with less distortion.

All models are available in black or white cabinets (except where noted), as well as in a black, outdoor version. A portable model in black utilizes a Line Array Loudspeaker with 4 pairs of Coaxial Line Array drivers and a 15-inch subwoofer, making it perfect for DJ's and mobile events. All models are available now, except where noted.

Array Optimization Software (AOS)

Ambisonic Sound Technologies' unique Array Optimization Software (AOS) is a Line Array aiming program that allows a system designer to draw up to seven different listening planes and optimize the aiming and articulation of the loudspeaker array for any number of those planes. The AOS makes designing and installing a fully-optimized, high-quality Line Array system an effortless activity.
