C2G (http://www.c2g.com), the preferred provider and trusted expert of high performance cabling and connectivity solutions, launches its latest educational initiative surrounding the new standards of USB. As the International Consumer Electronics Show (International CES) comes to a close and next-generation innovations are in the forefront of everyone's mind, C2G is committed to keeping ahead of the curve in educating on advancements that will re-shape the industry. Thus, C2G is raising awareness and training customers on the USB 3.1 standard and USB Type C connector which will change the current landscape of desktop connectivity (among other applications).

What is USB 3.1 and the USB Type C connector? USB 3.1 and the USB Type C connector are brand new technologies that will revolutionize the way we connect devices. This powerful new USB performance level is alternately known as USB SuperSpeed Plus, USB Gen 2, and USB Enhanced SuperSpeed. A considerable number of improvements have been made to this new specification over the previous versions including a new, symmetrical high bandwidth connector called USB Type C. The data transfer rate has increased to 10Gbit/s-twice the speed of existing USB technologies-which means a reduction in the time required to transfer and backup large amounts of data such as HD video and high resolution photos. The enhanced power delivery of 20 volts, 5 amps, and 100 watts can easily support charging a smartphone, tablet or other mobile device, but would also allow a laptop to power a computer monitor or a computer monitor with a power supply to charge a laptop through its USB C connector. It also features built-in support for DisplayPort video and four channel audio for speakers and a microphone.

Though these technologies are not out on the market yet, changes are happening fast. Expect to see USB 3.1 performance and the USB Type C connector on laptops, smartphones, tablets, cables, adapters and accessories as early as this summer. In the meantime, C2G is taking the lead on enlightening resellers, buyers, and influencers on the enhanced USB specification so they are prepared for the revolution. The educational campaign is comprehensive-consisting of blog posts, a dedicated landing page to this technology, white papers, educational webinars, and targeted collateral covering what the new technology is, what it means for current and new devices, and when to expect the rollout of products that include these enhancements.
