Parks Associates: More than 40% of broadband households in Germany and Spain own a smart TV

Smart TV, connected devices, and streaming media market a key focus at CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Monetizing Strategies for the Connected Home

Dallas, Texas, September 30, 2014 - New European entertainment and Internet of Things research from Parks Associates shows more than 40% of broadband households in Germany and Spain own a smart TV, while U.K. adoption of smart TVs is 33%. Parks Associates will address the changing landscape for connected CE, pay TV, and OTT services at the ninth-annual CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Monetizing Strategies for the Connected Home, 18-19 November in Amsterdam at the Mövenpick Hotel.

Parks Associates' latest European consumer research also reveals 54% of Spanish and 38% of U.K. and German broadband households connect a PC to the TV.

"European consumers continue to seek ways to watch online content on TV," said Brett Sappington, Director, Research, Parks Associates. "Google's Chromecast has recently launched in several European markets, and the use of PC-to-TV connections is far higher in Europe than in the U.S. Unfortunately, this approach has produced a fragmented user experience. Players in the video market, including pay-TV providers, have a real opportunity to differentiate themselves via a compelling, easy-to-use, unified user experience for consumers."

Emerging Power of IoT in Europe finds 54% of broadband households in Germany and more than two-thirds of broadband households in Spain and the U.K. have a connected CE device connected to the Internet. These connected devices include smart TVs, Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, set-top boxes, DVRs/PVRs, and streaming media devices.
