Funding goal for tado° Cooling reached on Kickstarter
San Francisco / London / Munich, June 5, 2014 - In time for the World Environment Day and the beginning of the hot season in many regions tado°, the smart energy tech firm, has reached the funding goal for its new AC product tado° Cooling on Kickstarter. tado° offers intelligent energy management solutions and enables people around the world to live sustainably and effortlessly while increasing their comfort.
Every year on June 5th World Environment Day ('WED') run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is celebrated to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and our planet. One third of the energy consumed around the world is used for heating or cooling buildings. Yet many of the systems used for this rely on non-smart technology that has been outdated for decades. "Our main motivation for developing tado° was to tackle this issue and make a significant contribution to the environment protection. We believe in intelligent technology that is intuitive and automatically ensures that no energy is wasted," says Christian Deilmann, founder and CEO at tado°.
tado° Cooling is a completely new kind of smart AC control that was designed to bring the intelligence of tado°'s previously launched Heating-App to warmer regions. tado° automatically adjusts your AC to your needs using a geo-aware app for outdoor and indoor presence detection: When the last person leaves the house tado° automatically turns off the air conditioning and pre-cools before you arrive back home. Thanks to its room-to-room feature tado° Cooling even knows what room to cool and when, empowering consumers to save both energy and money without constraining comfort.
According to the findings in the latest Fraunhofer Institute research on the tado° Heating App, consumers can potentially save up to 26% on energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
The new tado° device for ACs can increase the efficiency of over 1 billion compatible ACs worldwide as it reduces the AC's energy consumption by up to 40%.
"This means that if everyone with an AC unit used tado° Cooling we could save as much energy as is produced by 600,000 wind turbines. The potential for the tado° community around the world is enormous! Together we can have a big impact on the environment and the resources of our planet," says Christian Deilmann, founder and CEO of tado°.
tado° Cooling becomes reality on Kickstarter
Only until June 11th tado° Cooling is exclusively available to buy on the world's largest crowdfunding platform: Kickstarter.com. The initial funding goal of $150,000 was surpassed with another full week left. The tado° team now stretches the campaign goal to $200,000. If this new goal is reached in time tado° will integrate Apple's HomeKit standard by Fall 2014. With the HomeKit integration, tado° users will be able to get even more out of tado°'s products when they own an Apple device. For example, it will allow for convenient temperature or sleep time changes in the tado° app with a quick Siri voice command such as "Going to bed now" or by simply pressing the home button in combination with TouchID.

tado° was founded by Christian Deilmann, Johannes Schwarz and Valentin Sawadski in 2011. The team has been working on the development of tado° The Heating App at the headquarters in Munich for around three years.
After going to market in November 2012 and gaining tens of thousands of users in the EU with The Heating App, the team is now launching tado° Cooling to expand globally.
The name "tado" is derived from the Japanese greetings "tadaima" and "okaeri". Loosely translated, they mean "I'm home" and "Welcome home".
