The Cube installation at the Queensland University of Technology wins Gold Award in the Education and Healthcare category
MultiTouch Ltd, the world leader in interactive display systems, has secured a 2014 Digital
Situated at QUT's Science and Engineering Centre, and installed by Pro AV Solutions Queensland, The Cube provides an explorative and participatory experience for users and has been designed to inspire and engage - in addition to increasing users' interests in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics through the use of interactive technology. MultiTouch's 48x55" Ultra-Thin Bezel (UTB) MultiTaction Cell displays create six educational zones, integrating seamlessly with images from 14 HD projectors in the huge, two-story Reef attraction.
This seamless integration between the two technologies allows the end user to feel as though he or she is right there within the installation, as it creates an almost real-life experience. Such a level of image integration could not be achieved without the use of MultiTouch's MultiTaction displays. The displays have an ultra-fast response time and can track unlimited touch points including hands, fingers, 2D markers and even real-life objects.
"The Apex Awards were created to foster innovation and recognise excellence in the digital signage industry. The work of the recipients of this award represents the best of the best," said Richard Lebovitz, editorial director for Digital Signage Expo. "Recognition of this project, and the collaboration behind it, should be particularly satisfying to the recipients because it is the product of a shared vision and a great working relationship."
"We are thrilled to receive this award and to have our work with QUT and Pro AV Solutions Queensland recognised as the best in the education and healthcare category," comments Hannu Anttila, vice president of business development at MultiTouch. "Creating the world's largest interactive multi-touch installation was a massive undertaking and the integration of our MultiTaction Cell displays truly brings the content to life at The Cube. The versatility of our technology adds a unique element to any public digital installation. The possibilities for multi-touch technology are endless and we will continue our pursuit in pushing the boundaries and creating state-of-the-art installations for other industries."
MultiTouch and QUT accepted the award at the DSE 2014 Awards dinner at the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas, on February 12th.
