'Empower Your Entrepreneurial Spirit' Forum to Feature New 'Enstitute' Session and 'Merits of Mentoring' Panel
LOS ANGELES -- June 3, 2013 -- Women in Consumer Electronics (CE) today announced the full agenda for "Empower Your Entrepreneurial Spirit," the second annual Women in CE Career Enhancement Forum, which will take place June 25 at the start of CE Week. The Forum returns to the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City and will deliver a full day of sessions, topics, workshops, and keynote speakers that relate to career enhancement for all corporate, small business, and entrepreneurial women pursuing a career in consumer electronics. The agenda now features a new "Enstitute" session and adds "The Merits of Mentoring" panel.
Enstitute, a nonprofit, apprenticeship-based educational experience that turns startups and small businesses into classrooms, will be presented by its co-founder Shaila Ittycheria. In the session, Ittycheria will explore this new, revolutionary learn-by-doing education model that results in jobs. She will discuss how the failures she witnessed firsthand as a hiring manager inspired the ideas behind Enstitute, the significant development its program participants have demonstrated, and the overall implications of what it means for the career ecosystem.
The Women in CE mentoring program is one of the organization's greatest benefits. As such, a power panel on mentoring has been assembled to reinforce the organization's mission and the importance of mentorship for professional development. Deena Ghazaria, vice president of sales and strategy for Monster Inc., will moderate the panel. Joining Ghazaria as panelists will be Jeannette Howe, executive director of Specialty Electronics Nationwide; Katy Papadopoulos, director of all things creative for SheLuvsTech; Petro Shimonishi, global business team leader, headphones, at D&M Holdings Inc.; and Andrea Smith, an award-winning news and technology journalist.
"We are very excited to add Shaila and our distinguished group of mentoring panelists to the lineup for this year's Career Enhancement Forum. Their contributions will not only strengthen our message of entrepreneurship, but will also stress the importance of mentorship in fueling success," said Carol Campbell, founder of Women in CE. "Thanks to Enstitute and the mentoring panel, together with our other featured workshops and distinguished speakers, our Forum is shaping up to be a truly monumental event."
The Forum's opening keynote speaker is Kay Koplovitz, founder of USA Networks and former chair to President Bill Clinton's bipartisan National Women's Business Council. Koplovitz is also the co-creator of Springboard Enterprises, an organization that selects, trains, and presents women-led companies to raise venture capital.
As part of the program's featured workshops, Springboard Enterprises co-founder Amy Millman will moderate the Dolphin Tank", a supportive business-pitch platform for exchanging feedback and ideas. Panelists will be Angela Lee, founder of 37 Angels Investment Network; Sandra Kresch, president of PSD International; Debra Filtzer, director of small business marketing at American Express Merchant Services; and Sandra Benedetto, director of product management at THX Ltd.
Returning to lead a featured workshop is Sam Horn, ideapreneur and author of "POP! Create the Perfect Pitch, Title and Tagline for Anything." She will present "OWN IT! How to Give and Get the Respect You Deserve," which will address tangible systems and approaches that can help people communicate with confidence to increase influence, authority, and results.
Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" and best-selling author of "Knowing Your Value," will deliver the Forum's closing keynote remarks. Brzezinski will discuss concepts from her book, which addresses perceptions of value and how successful women today have achieved their deserved recognition and financial worth in the workplace.
The one-day "Empower Your Entrepreneurial Spirit" Career Enhancement Forum will start at 10 a.m. with an opening networking breakfast. The event wraps up with a book signing by Brzezinski and a closing networking reception starting at 5:15 p.m.
Hosted by Women in CE, an industry organization that promotes the advancement of women in the consumer electronics industry, the Forum is open to all professional women working in all segments of the CE industry, including manufacturers, major retailers, specialty retailers, suppliers, integrators, distributors, manufacturers' representatives, buying groups, and consultants.
