DTS and Sharp Bring Superior Sound to a New Line of Network-Connected Televisions

Sharp has integrated DTS high-definition audio technology into its new line of network-connected smart televisions, released in the first quarter of 2012

CALABASAS, Calif.--DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio, announced an alliance with leading consumer electronics manufacturer Sharp Corporation. Sharp has integrated DTS high-definition audio technology into its new line of network-connected smart televisions, released in the first quarter of 2012. This alliance marks the first time a licensee has made available DTS 2.0 and DTS 2.0 + Digital Out™ in televisions capable of delivering superb surround sound and stereo playback for digital content.

The collaboration between Sharp and DTS showcases an ongoing trend of televisions evolving in the home entertainment hub as new technologies are incorporated. These televisions deliver to the consumer a superior entertainment experience with high-quality DTS encoded content.

"As digital media consumption continues to evolve, DTS is constantly working to enhance the listening experience, regardless of the platform," said Roy Law, president of DTS Greater China Region. "From mobile phones to the latest TV innovations, our technologies create a high-quality entertainment experience that adapts to the digital media ecosystem and supports content delivery across multiple screens. DTS is dedicated to partnering with leading manufacturers, such as Sharp, that continuously innovate to deliver cutting edge audio technology and provide consumers with a complete high-definition entertainment experience."

Sharp's new PRC-model smart televisions integrated with DTS high-definition audio technology enable rich, superior audio to accompany high-quality digital content. DTS 2.0 + Digital Out decodes DTS encoded content for two-channel stereo playback directly from the TV, turning the device into a home entertainment media hub and offering an immersive audio experience without the additional requirement of a digital media player or set-top box. DTS Digital Out also provides compatibility with external devices, such as an AV receiver or home theater system to deliver immersive surround sound for the ultimate movie watching experience.
