Ideal for high-end audio components, musical instruments and professional audio equipment, Auricap XO capacitors are the result of rigorous evaluation and testing of every aspect of capacitor design.
San Marcos, CA, May 1, 2012 - Audience today announced the introduction of its Auricap XO capacitors, premium-quality high-resolution components that are designed to provide superior sound quality. Ideal for high-end audio components, musical instruments and professional audio equipment, Auricap XO capacitors are the result of rigorous evaluation and testing of every aspect of capacitor design.
"In creating our new Auricap XO capacitors, we reconsidered all of the factors involved in capacitor manufacturing and determined where we could make improvements to create a capacitor with greater sonic transparency," noted John McDonald, president of Audience. "When used in audio components, XO caps allow listeners to hear farther into the music, and in musical instrument applications like electric guitars, they provide greater clarity and detail and allow more of the inherent sound of the instrument to come through."
Audience Auricap XO capacitors are made using the highest quality polypropylene film available. The leads are made from Audience Auric OHNO high-purity continuous cast copper wire. Factors such as the amount of tension on the internal windings, baking times, cryogenic treatment and other proprietary procedures have all been optimized through empirical testing and listening evaluations.
Capacitors are comprised of two conductive plates separated by an insulator. The basic concept is to generate an impedance between the two plates that decreases with frequency. This enables a capacitor to function as a filter, store energy and perform other useful functions in electronic circuits.
In an ideal situation there would not be a limit to how high the frequency could go or how low an impedance could be achieved with a capacitor. However, in the real world, less-than-ideal materials and construction cause parasitics including inductance, resistance and microphonics. This can be caused by imperfect insulation, resistance and inductance from the metal film used in some capacitors, and the most significant factor - the DC resistance and inductance of the leads that are attached to the ends of the capacitors.
Audience Auricap XO caps significantly minimize the parasitics caused by the lead wires by using multiple strands of OHNO (continuous cast) wire. The parasitics of the actual capacitive element are further reduced by careful design of the internal geometry and a specialized method of bonding the lead wires.
These and other proprietary design elements result in a capacitor that acts capacitive to a higher frequency (for a greater effective bandwidth) and provides a lower impedance with lower losses than competitive products. The audible benefits include improved retrieval of low-level musical detail and greatly reduced sonic colorations, noise and microphonics.
Audience was formed in November 1997 by John McDonald and the late Richard Smith, as a design and production company focused on building the best possible audio and video equipment. To pass the Audience test, each product must truly make a significant contribution to the reproduction of audio and/or video. Audience offers loudspeakers, electronics, cables, power conditioners, high-resolution capacitors and the Auric Illuminator optical disk resolution enhancement.
Audience's commitment is to develop the very best products possible, and the company is committed to unexcelled customer service and product support. All Audience cables have an unconditional lifetime warranty and power conditioners have a ten-year warranty. For more information visit www.audience-av.com.
