The 20 and 40 introduce an elegant new form factor to the Motion Series along with more power and precision to deliver audiophile performance at a value.
Lawrence, KS - March 27, 2012 - MartinLogan, the world's leader in electrostatic loudspeaker technology, announces availability of the new Motion® 20 and 40 tower speakers. Both new models feature MartinLogan's advanced resolution Folded Motion™ tweeter, larger drivers and a completely new cabinet design compared to previous Motion Series floorstanding speakers.
Compact (36.6" tall), for a floorstanding speaker with such impressive performance specs, the Motion 20 features two 5-1/2" aluminum cone woofers in a non-resonant asymmetrical chamber format in a cast polymer basket. Rigid structured dust caps also aid in reducing cone break-up while contributing to the refined visual statement. The Motion 20 is designed for fill small to medium sized rooms with a recommended amplifier power of 20-200 watts per channel.
To achieve an expansive soundstage, detailed highs, revealing midrange and extended low end, the Motion 40 makes use of a 5-1/2" aluminum mid-bass and dual 6-1/2" oversized bass cones, paired with a rear-firing bass port. The oversized woofer design creates increased cone area delivering higher output and audibly richer, deeper bass performance over its slightly smaller sibling, the Motion 20. The addition of a dedicated midrange woofer also promotes an even more open, revealing and authentic midrange. Pairing this powerful trio with the patented Folded Motion tweeter creates audible acoustic alchemy across the frequency spectrum.
Both the Motion 20 and 40 feature Precision Vojtko™ crossovers with custom air core coil and low DCR steel laminate inductors. Polyester film capacitors in series and low DF electrolytic capacitors in parallel make for some of the most sophisticated crossovers available. The audiophile-grade tweeters each consist of 1" x 1.4" high-frequency Folded Motion™ Transducers with a 5.25" x 1.75" diaphragm along with thermal and current protection.
"The Motion Series introduced MartinLogan to a much larger listening audience because of the price point and widespread availability," said Mark Aling, director of marketing for MartinLogan. "With the new 20 and 40 tower speakers, we've improved performance through materials and also given them a complete form factor makeover, that also improves the quality of audio playback."
Ideal for two-channel stereo music enjoyment or a multi-channel home theater system, the Motion 20 and 40 are voice matched to the Motion FX surround speakers and the soon-to-be-released Motion 30 center channel speaker. Bass aficionados can add a high performance MartinLogan subwoofer for gut-busting lows, the Dynamo 500 or 700 are recommended.
A high gloss piano black finish gives the Motions 20 and 40 a classic but elegant finish suitable for any listening room or home theater. MiniETC™ spikes are included and custom, 5-way bi-wire push-style binding posts are used for connecting to source components.
The Motion 20 is available now with an MSRP of: $749.95 each
The Motion 40 is available now with an MSRP of: $949.95 each
