WOODBURY, NY - JBL, Inc., today announced that four JBL Synthesis® audio systems will be used in custom -built theater installations at the 61st Cannes Film Festival (Festival de Cannes), which will take place May 14 - 25 in Cannes, France.
These ultrahigh -end, large -scale systems will be employed in five theaters to be specially built at the elegant Hotel Gray d'Albion in Cannes. For the fifth year in a row, JBL® systems have been chosen for the theaters by the Marché du Film, the world's largest international film market, which is part of the Festival de Cannes organization.
In addition, JBL Cinema Sound multichannel loudspeaker systems, Harman Kardon® high -performance audio/video components and AKG® headphones will be used in three screening rooms and 50 video -on -demand booths that will screen films for the festival's Short Film Corner, a forum for the many short films to be featured at Cannes.

JBL Synthesis Components and Systems: Created for Extraordinary Sonic Realism
The JBL Synthesis systems for the Hotel Gray d'Albion theaters will be installed in a variety of multichannel and 2.1 -channel configurations. Four of the theaters will utilize SK2 -1000 loudspeakers, in addition to S1S -EX 18 -inch subwoofers. The fifth screening room will feature JBL Project Array™ model 1000 loudspeakers and a model 1500 Array 15 -inch subwoofer.
The system's electronics will include the AV1 digital surround processor/system controller, in addition to S800 two -channel x 200 -watt power amplifiers and S7150 seven -channel x 150 -watt power amplifiers.
The SK2 -1000 is a no -compromise four -way loudspeaker designed to deliver remarkable fidelity, dynamic authority and realism in custom installations. It features beryllium midrange and ultrahigh -frequency compression drivers for maximum high -frequency and midrange clarity; a specially designed Bi -Radial® horn that provides optimum sound coverage over a wide listening area; dual 10 -inch high -power cast -frame woofers; and premium -quality internal components.
The Project Array model 1000 Array loudspeaker incorporates innovative JBL compression -driver technologies and high -performance dynamic drivers to take advantage of the sonic strengths of both designs, and is distinctively elegant in appearance, with a highly polished lacquered -wood finish.
Project Array Series loudspeakers employ Bi -Radial horn compression drivers mounted in an enclosureless vertical configuration, and other advanced technologies, to deliver extraordinary sonic accuracy.
The S1S -EX subwoofer features an 18 -inch woofer, which utilizes an exclusive JBL Aquaplas -coated -cellulose -fiber cone material, a highly rigid yet responsive material that yields articulate, accurate low -frequency response. The 1500 Array powered subwoofer employs a W1500H 15 -inch pulp -cone woofer, featuring an edge -wound copper voice coil in a massive 4 -inch ferrite magnet assembly. It incorporates a built -in 1000 -watt amplifier to deliver powerful bass output.
The AV1 is a high -performance, software -upgradeable 7.1 -channel surround processor/system controller that utilizes advanced digital technologies to achieve the highest possible resolution and fidelity. The AV1 is compatible with popular surround sound decoding formats, and incorporates exclusive 7.1 Logic 7® processing for enhanced surround sound realism. It offers versatile connection options, including high -bandwidth, HDTV -compatible component -video switching, multiple digital and analog audio and video inputs and outputs, and multiple RS -232 ports for facilitating integrated system operation.
The S800 stereo power amplifiers and seven -channel S7150 power amplifiers are engineered for superb sonic performance, and are designed to interface with other Synthesis system components for sophisticated automatic control capabilities.
JBL Cinema Sound: Superlative Sound and Elegant Styling
JBL Cinema Sound loudspeakers and systems incorporate technologies derived from the company's professional models to deliver outstanding sound, and feature sleek, distinctively elegant black -and -silver styling in a variety of models that integrate beautifully into any room. A 5.1 -channel JBL Cinema Sound installation comprising four CST55 floorstanding towers, a CSC55 center channel and a CSS10 powered subwoofer will be used in the Short Film Corner screening rooms.

The JBL Cinema Sound loudspeakers are complemented by the Harman Kardon AVR 350 7.1 -channel audio/video receiver and DMC 250 digital media center. Both components (available in Europe and other countries; not available in the U.S.) are designed to provide superlative audio and video quality, as well as outstanding flexibility and ease of use.
The AVR 350 offers a host of innovative features to deliver exceptional performance and multiroom versatility. It incorporates the company's EzSet/EQ feature set, providing automatic room -equalization and system -calibration functions to achieve a remarkable level of sonic accuracy. AKG K242HD and K142HD headphones will be used in the Short Film Corner screening rooms and 50 video -on -demand viewing booths. The K242HD and K142HD high -definition studio -quality headphones provide an immersive stereo soundfield and offer accurate, detailed audio quality, with powerful bass and beautifully detailed midrange and highs.
