AirWave Wireless, a leader in Network Management is recognized by Mobile Village for successful deployment
MOBILEVILLAGE RECOGNIZES AIRWAVE FOR TOP SUCCESS CASE STUDY IN WIRELESS LAN
Massachusetts Institute of Technology Taps AirWave Solution to Manage Campus -wide Wireless Network
San Mateo, Calif. - October 9, 2007 - AirWave Wireless (www.airwave.com), the leader in wireless network management and security today announced that it has won a coveted Gold Mobile Star Award™ from MobileVillage®, the 14 -year leader in market development and news services about mobile technology. AirWave has been recognized in the category of Success Story: Wireless LAN: MIT Using AirWave Wireless.
The annual Mobile Star Awards™ honor and promote the best companies, products, deployments and leaders in mobile and wireless technology. Winners are chosen by subscribers to Go Mobile®, MobileVillage's free online newsletter sent to technology executives, mobile professionals, IT managers, developers and top tech journalists.
"Today there are more mobile and wireless products, and more mobile users than ever before," said Gary Thayer, Editor, MobileVillage. "The market is in a proliferation mode so there's a natural need for people to see and compare what's out there. This year nearly 2,000 MobileVillage readers cast votes. These folks are dyed -in -the -wool users with a great breadth of mobile product knowledge and are eager to share their first -hand experiences with others."
AirWave's customer, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) sought a cost -effective way to enable ubiquitous wireless connectivity and a seamless user -experience for students, faculty and staff that covered nearly 9.4 million square feet over the single wireless network.
The goal was to achieve a "birds -eye" view of MIT's network (for future planning and ROI) to manage, control and secure their vast, ever -growing wireless environment and support ongoing upgrades. MIT turned to AirWave's AMP, the centerpiece of the AirWave Wireless Management Suite, and was able to securely and remotely manage their rapidly growing campus -wide wireless network. In turn, this enabled students and faculty to seamlessly access the tools they need to succeed from every inch of MIT's campus - which is particularly important considering the university's strong emphasis on conducting visionary scientific research.
With the sheer size of land area, MIT experienced interference on the fringe of their network. They had also grappled with rogue access points in the dorms and with complete coverage indoors and on campus they had been trying to stomp out these access points for interference issues. AirWave's software, however, provided the ability to detect rogue access immediately and eliminate any interference.
Thanks to AirWave's technology, the MIT campus is now able to assess the health of their entire network in minutes, from one screen with an intuitive user interface, enabling network administrators and the Help Desk staff to support and control their large network and automatically monitor, analyze, and configure their wireless networks without raising costs or adding to IT's support burden.
"We are please that the voters found the AirWave and MIT collaboration a compelling application," said Greg Murphy, COO, AirWave. "College campuses are known for consuming a lot of bandwidth in a continuous cycle. The networks are literally pulling perpetual all -nighters and IT pros who monitor performance recognize the many attributes we have included to make their job easier."
