Harman Kardon is expanding its product line into an entirely new category with the introduction of its DMC 1000 and DMC 250 digital media centers.
14 September 2006
WOODBURY, NY - At CEDIA Expo 2006 (Colorado Convention Center, Booth 644, September 14 - 17, 2006), Harman Kardon is expanding its product line into an entirely new category with the introduction of its DMC 1000 and DMC 250 digital media centers.
The DMC 1000 is the company's first hard drive -based media server, and provides a host of advanced media -storage and playback capabilities, including independent, simultaneous playback of up to four audio streams. The DMC 250 is the first DVD player that also stores content to media cards or USB storage devices, and plays back audio and video files from them. Both models feature an all -new, striking industrial design with sleek, ultramodern styling and a transparent base that imparts a unique "floating" appearance.
Tom McLoughlin, Harman Kardon president, pointed out: "Our new digital media centers offer consumers unique and innovative ways to enjoy their favorite music, movies and images. The DMC 1000 and DMC 250 not only provide versatile home entertainment capabilities, they make it easy to store, transfer and access a wide variety of media content for use in the car, with a portable music player, on a cell phone or with other compatible devices."
The DMC 1000: Unique Capabilities for Enjoying Entertainment at Home and On the Go
The DMC 1000 is an exceptionally versatile audio/video source component. The first time a CD is loaded, its contents are automatically added to the DMC 1000's 160GB hard -drive library at 8x -speed while simultaneously playing the CD. Content from the hard drive may be copied to Compact Flash,
Memory Stick, SD and MMC media cards or USB storage devices for playback in portable music players, automobiles, cell phones or other compatible devices.
The DMC 1000 can store more than 20,000 songs, complete with full track -identification information (artist, title, genre, etc.) and album cover art (when available; a broadband network connection is required to download content identification and cover art). The DMC 1000 can also play back audio and still -image files from solid -state media cards (including CF, SD, MMC or MS types, as well as derivative mini and micro versions of these cards for cell phones, when used with the card adapters supplied with the cards) and USB storage devices. Content stored on the DMC 1000's hard drive can also be copied to a media card or to a USB storage device, and a no -charge software upgrade will be available in spring 2007 to allow content to be copied from the hard drive to a CD -R/RW disc.
The DMC 1000 can play back up to four audio streams to separate zones, independently and simultaneously, and complete playback control is provided from a keypad controller in the remote zone. When used with a compatible keypad such as those available from Crestron®, AMX® and other manufacturers, track information and cover art is shown on the keypad's display.
The DMC 1000 can play back music or video/still images from an iPod®* when a compatible iPod model (not included) is connected to the server via , ** Harman Kardon's exclusive iPod docking station (sold separately). When connected in this manner, the iPod can be controlled by the DMC 1000's included remote control, with menus to operate the iPod shown on both a TV or video display and the server's front -panel display. The DMC 1000 can also be operated using its touch -sensitive front -panel controls.
Unlike other media servers, the DMC 1000 is designed to also be used as an everyday, full -featured DVD/CD player, and its attractive appearance complements any home entertainment installation. It includes a fully enabled HDMI™ 1.1 output that delivers high -definition digital video and multichannel digital audio, with upscaling to 720p to provide extraordinary picture quality from DVDs, as well as JPEG still images.
The DMC 1000 was designed from the ground up by Harman Kardon. It features a newly developed, intuitive on -screen user interface that offers total ease of operation and ready access to its numerous performance and convenience features.
The DMC 250: Exceptional DVD Player Performance With Portable Media Recording and Playback
The Harman Kardon DMC 250 is a highly flexible source component, and is the first DVD player to offer portable media recording and playback capability. The DMC 250 can store audio files to media cards and storage devices, and play back audio and video files from them, making it easy to transfer favorite music from the home to a car or portable audio player, without the need for a computer.
The DMC 250 is engineered to deliver exceptional progressive -scan picture and multichannel audio quality, and plays back a wide variety of DVD and CD formats, as well as discs that contain JPEG image, Kodak® Picture CD™, MP3 or Windows Media® Audio (WMA) files. The DMC 250 also plays back audio and video files from media cards and USB storage devices, and can copy audio files from a CD to an MMC, SD or MS media card or a USB storage device. Users can listen to a CD while recording, or transfer content to portable media at 4x -speed. The DMC 250 offers a host of additional useful features, and, like the DMC 1000, its software and firmware can be upgraded to accommodate future feature and performance enhancements or other capabilities.
The Harman Kardon DMC 1000 digital media center will be available in November 2006 at a suggested retail price of $2,999, and the DMC 250 digital media center will be available in November 2006 at $399 suggested retail.
