Winning companies reveal impressive and professional projects that were created with D-Tools distinctive System Integrator software. Over $20,000 in prizes were donated by this years sponsors.
DENVER, CO, SEPTEMBER 14, 2006 - D -Tools, Inc., the worldwide leader in system integration software, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2006 Design Awards. This annual contest recognizes excellence in System Integration projects utilizing D -Tools SI 4.5 in four categories; Best Overall Project, Best Residential, Best Commercial, and Most Unique (Residential or Commercial). Winners were selected by the D -Tools development team. The winning entries were judged on number of criteria, including originality, most thorough use of D -Tools' software functionality, overall visual quality of designs, plans, and schematics; and which projects best communicate the system designer's vision. The Design Awards were created to showcase the most dynamic and innovative residential and commercial projects created with D -Tools System Integration software, and this year's winners clearly demonstrate that.
The 2006 Design Award Winners Include:
Best Overall System was awarded to Mauricio Barrientos of Home Systems. He created a very client friendly presentation that truly maximizes the ability of D -Tools SI to provide easy to understand graphics without skimping on the engineering. Taking a craftsman's approach, Mauricio gently laid out a very diverse system utilizing JPEG images linked to data placed on plan views cropped from an AutoCAD file. His schematics are truly artful with evenly spaced intersections and lines that are easy to follow with the eye. An excellent representation as to the power of the right tool in the right hands.
Most Unique System was designed by Russ Winegar of LAVAcorp. With their project entry, we see how they have capitalized not only on the design and estimating features of D -Tools SI, but also have learned to maximize the file management abilities as well. The lean and clean views were quick to create but it was the addition of the touch panel page views and inserting 3D theater views into the Visio file from outside the D -Tools application, which made this project so interesting.
Best Residential System design was captured by Aaron Rosenbaum of Ambleside Logic. The Ambleside teams' style and mastery of D -tools provides a truly exceptional plan view complete with advanced icons and has also shown the judges the first WIFI area design ever submitted. Elevations are direct and to the point showing multiple rack elevations and we even see an excellent example of how JPEF images can be used to communicate rough -in information to the other trades on a large project. The schematics are very well done with custom wire colors, callouts from wire and they provide the install staff with a simple yet effect map along with complete point -to -point wire reports to support a successful project implementation.
Best Commercial System design was awarded to Jeffrey L. Grim of Lights -Out Operations and Technology. Winner of last years Best Commercial title, the lights are definitely on at Lights Out Operations as they continue a two year winning streak. Without question, they showed the most creative use of JPEG images linked to a Visio shape that snap to racks all properly spaced. Continuing that theme JPEGs are also included with each schematic block showing the installer not only how to hook up the device but additionally provides a nice JPEG of the devices back panel view. This is cutting edge stuff way above the norm but as is everything with D -tools, once created all is easily repeated.
Second place Residential design was awarded to Gary Miller of August Systems and Third place Residential was awarded to Bill Cole of Sound Advice Systems.
D -Tools Manufacturer Vantage Point (MVP) members participated in the Design Awards by sponsoring categories and providing prizes to the winners. Over $20,000 in prizes have been provided by APC AV, Atlantic Technology, Brother Inc., Draper Inc, Middle Atlantic Products, NetStreams, Panamax, and Velodyne Acoustics. D -Tools is also awarding a copy of System Integrator 5 - a $3,000 value - for the winners in each category. All entrants were recognized for their submissions with a prize package valued at $100. Besides the manufacturer prizes, each winning company will receive an attractive award to display at their office.
"Winning a category in the Design Awards is an outstanding achievement for any system integration company," said Tim Bigoness, VP of Marketing for D -Tools. "Providing our customers with the tools to create such exceptional projects at such a professional level is what drives us as a company and continues to be a key driver for future product improvements."
Winners will be showcased in D -Tools Booth #126 at CEDIA EXPO. "It is an honor for us to be able to announce the winners at CEDIA," said Bigoness. "CEDIA is one of the most distinguished trade shows in the A/V industry and it is a great venue for the winners' achievements to be recognized. This will also give us the opportunity to demonstrate to other system integrators what they can achieve with our software."
