Card is Wi-Fi Certified™ and Cisco® Compatible for Unparalleled Interoperability
BRUSSELS - Feb. 1, 2006 - AMX, a worldwide leader in advanced control system technology, is bringing enhanced security, faster networking and greater wireless convenience to its line of Modero® Wireless Touch Panels. The company announced today an 802.11g CompactFlash (CF) Card that is both Wi -Fi Certified™ and Cisco® Compatible, for unparalleled network interoperability with AMX systems. The Card also enables greater transmission range for more flexibility and convenience. AMX is demonstrating the 802.11g CF Card in its booth, E17, at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), being held in Brussels Feb. 1 - 3.
The 802.11g CF Card is backwards compatible with, and can be easily installed in, 7.5" and 8.4" AMX Modero® ViewPoint Touch Panels, as well as 7' and 10" AMX Modero Widescreen Touch Panels. With the new card, AMX Touch Panels can interface with 802.11g access points from any Wi -Fi Certified manufacturer, and has met interoperability tests for compatibility with wireless network equipment from industry -leader Cisco Systems®, which, according to the Dell'Oro Group, has the leading market share among corporations.
"With the new 802.11g CF card from AMX, homeowners and IT/AV managers will have flexibility to choose the wireless security that best fits their need," said Rashid Skaf, president and CEO, AMX. "In particular, those wanting to use Cisco's wireless networking technology - widely recognized among the world's best for enhanced security - will have peace of mind knowing their wireless control network is protected by Cisco's advanced encryption software."
To obtain Cisco Compatible status for its CF Card, AMX licensed, and then integrated, Cisco WLAN specifications, including the company's Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol (LEAP), into its CF Card. The card was then certified by an independent third -party test lab following extensive testing regarding interoperability with Cisco WLAN infrastructure products, which provide enhanced security, mobility, quality of service, and network management.
The new 802.11g CF card offers twice the transmission range of the current 802.11b card. The 802.11g CF card also includes a site survey application displaying all Wireless Application Protocols (WAPs) in range, along with Simple Session Initiation Protocol (SSIP), channel signal strength and encryption information, directly from the Modero Touch Panel, an important new benefit for AMX control system integrators.
The 802.11g CF Card will be available within 90 days.
