Oregan Networks and CinemaNow Launch Direct Service Delivery Platform for Network Connected Consumer
Non-infrastructure web video services gain momentum. CinemaNow VOD service now delivered directly to consumer devices, bypassing PC.
Las Vegas, US, Consumer Electronics Show, January 5, 2006 - CinemaNow, a global leader in digital video aggregation and distribution, and Oregan Networks Ltd., a supplier of media browsing and streaming software, have jointly announced availability of a customisable service enablement framework, which allows device manufacturers to incorporate the CinemaNow service on consumer devices with broadband connectivity.
The service delivery model is similar to the telco IPTV scenario where digital content arrives directly to the television without an interim download on a personal computer. Oregan's Media Browser will enable CinemaNow on -demand and subscription video services via a proposed Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) standard CEA -2014, spearheaded by Philips, Intel and Samsung. The content is delivered directly to a networked consumer electronic device over DSL, FTTH or wireless network connectivity, protected with Microsoft Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) 10 and accessed via XHTML web browsing technology provided by Oregan.
"Our traditional PC -to -TV delivery approach was the important first step towards enabling the living room entertainment experience and in the very near future will remain at the core of our customer acquisition strategy. By working with consumer electronics -focused software solutions, like Oregan's, we aim to expand our global distribution offering to mass market entertainment devices, including flat panel TVs, Personal Video Recorders and digital broadcast set top boxes and mobile platforms" - said Bruce Eisen, President of CinemaNow
