Integrated Voice and Data Support Simplifies Hardware Management for Telcos

LAS VEGAS (2006 International CES, January 5, 2006) - Actiontec Electronics today announced the Actiontec 54 Mbps Wireless DSL Gateway with Voice, a complete customer premises hardware solution designed for telecom providers that are adding VoIP services to their existing broadband offerings. The gateway includes two built -in SIP -based voice ports as well as an ADSL2/2+ modem, a four -port Ethernet switch and a wireless access point, eliminating the need for telcos to stock separate hardware devices for broadband data and telephony services.

"The entry of telcos into the Internet telephony market has complicated the hardware landscape for service providers by adding telephone adapters to the list of customer premises equipment that must be purchased, tracked and installed," said Dean Chang, Actiontec President and CEO. "Integrating voice and data services on the same gateway makes it unnecessary to supply a separate adapter to new subscribers, lowers hardware costs, streamlines inventory management, simplifies installation at the customer site, and helps telcos implement their triple play initiatives as easily and cost -effectively as possible."

Complete VoIP and Networking Support
The new gateway's VoIP functionality includes support for voice services such as call waiting, three -way calling, caller ID, call forwarding and voicemail. It also features a POTS backup, echo cancellation technology, and support for 911 as well as fax modem.

In addition to the two VoIP ports, the gateway comes equipped with four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports and one USB port for wired networking as well as the 802.11g wireless access point for wireless resource sharing. Connections are color -coded for easy installation, a new graphical user interface ensures easy setup and network status checks, and support for the DSL Forum's TR -069 specification permits service providers to troubleshoot and upgrade equipment remotely.

The product also offers a high level of security including a customizable firewall, content filtering, WPA/WEP encryption, and parental control capabilities such as URL -based site blocking and custom filtering policies for each computer on the network. IP QoS Management is also included, enabling service providers to prioritize VoIP packets over data to ensure high -quality voice service.

Strategic Product Expansion
The new Actiontec gateway is the latest in a series of new products the company has developed to support the growing bandwidth requirements of newer multimedia applications ranging from VoIP to IPTV, digital video recorder networking, and whole -house video and audio streaming.

Other recent additions to Actiontec's product line include a new broadband home router that supports the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) networking standard, the market's first family of 85 Mbps powerline networking solutions, and a series of wired and wireless Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances designed to simplify media file sharing on home networks.
