Buffalo Expands its DLNA -Compatible Product Portfolio with New TeraStation Terabyte Home Server

High-capacity Storage Device Incorporates Mediabolic Media Server Software Enabling Consumers to Share Large Multimedia Collections throughout the Home

NAGOYA, JAPAN and SAN MATEO, CALIF. - DECEMBER 7, 2005 - Buffalo, a global leader in the design, development, and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage, and memory solutions, and Mediabolic, a leading provider of end -to -end software solutions for connected entertainment products, today announced the availability the Buffalo TeraStation Terabyte Home Server, a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) -compatible network -attached storage (NAS) device. The new TeraStation Home Server includes media server software from Mediabolic that provides centralized media management and distribution to multiple PCs and connected entertainment products on the home network.

The one -terabyte TeraStation allows consumers to deploy a powerful yet easy -to -use and cost -effective media and data server on their home or office networks. Powered by Mediabolic's award -winning NAS Media Server software, the TeraStation makes music, photo, and video files available over data networks so that consumers can browse and, using a compatible client such as Buffalo's LinkTheater Mini, play back all of their personal content anywhere in the home.

The TeraStation is the third product introduced by Buffalo since August 2005 that is based on software from Mediabolic. "The digital home is the next -generation growth market for Buffalo, and we have made great strides this year in our efforts to make highly interoperable, affordable products for consumers," said Kuniaki Saiki, chief operating officer of Buffalo. "Mediabolic's well -architected Source Code SDK gave us the ability to build and ship three DLNA -compliant digital media server and player products in less than six months: the LinkStation Home Server, the LinkTheater Mini Network Media Player, and now the TeraStation Home Server. It offers consumers a media server solution with a capacity large enough to store, protect, and share their complete personal media libraries with everyone in the home."

In addition to being very easy to set up and manage, the Buffalo TeraStation offers advanced fault -tolerant, RAID -based file sharing solutions, and Jumbo Frame technology for higher transfer speeds than on standard networks. It includes gigabit Ethernet networking, powerful file security and back -up utilities, and four USB 2.0 ports to accommodate additional external hard drives or shared printers. The TeraStation can run in four different operating modes and features a built -in USB print server and an FTP server function that allows users to access and transfer files using any computer on the Internet.

"With consumers accumulating personal media files at such an incredible pace, it became apparent to Buffalo that there was a need for a higher -capacity NAS product capable of serving content even while the consumer's PC is turned off," said Daniel Putterman, president and CEO of Mediabolic. "Our Source Code SDK gave Buffalo the ability to tailor all of their DLNA -compliant product lines to their users' specific needs. We're pleased to see Buffalo continue to advance itself as a leader in digital home networking and storage products by providing the largest variety of affordable, consumer -friendly connected entertainment devices."
