The BM Group recently introduced a home automation line of products called Atmosphera based on ZigBee technology for the European market.
San Ramon, Calif. - September 27, 2005 - The ZigBee™ Alliance, an association of companies working together to enable wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard, today announced that BM Group, a leading international company in connector technology, has been admitted as a "Promoter" level member, joining Chipcon, Ember Corporation, Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., Honeywell, Mitsubishi Electric, Motorola, Philips and Samsung on the ZigBee Alliance Board of Directors. The BM Group recently introduced a home automation line of products called Atmosphera based on ZigBee technology for the European market. As a newly elected Promoter, they will bring a valuable OEM and European perspective to the Alliance leadership.
The ZigBee Alliance currently has members in 24 countries across six continents, illustrating the worldwide interest in ZigBee technology. BM Group, a Rozzano (Milan) -based company, was the first Italian company to take an active role in the ZigBee Alliance and represents the fourth international company elected to the Alliance's board of directors. The Alliance continues to welcome new members that are interested in driving the adoption of ZigBee -enabled devices in real -world applications. The ZigBee Alliance now has well over 175 members worldwide.
ZigBee is the only global, interoperable wireless communications standard that enables the development of easily deployable, low -cost, low -power monitoring, sensing and control products suitable for both residential and commercial environments. An open standard facilitates the development and adoption of products by a broader range of companies, which ultimately translates into more choices for consumers. The ZigBee Alliance designed the ZigBee specification to meet all global requirements considering both geography and application. ZigBee supports three multi -channel frequency bands, including 2.4GHz, 902MHz to 928MHz, and 868MHz to 870MHz at data rates of 250kbps, 40kbps and 20kbps respectively.
"Having BM Group admitted to the Alliance's board of directors underscores the international interest in ZigBee technology and the need for wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard," said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. "The strong support and market need for the ZigBee standard was evidenced in our recent Open House in Chicago, which had more than 400 attendees learning about the technology and seeing 30 member companies publicly showcase their ZigBee products and technologies. As an international OEM, BM Group is a great asset to our leadership as we continue to build interest in developing and delivering ZigBee products to market globally."
"We are thrilled that BM Group has been admitted to the ZigBee Alliance's board of directors, and look forward to taking on this leadership role," says Andrea Lodolo, CEO of BM Group. "We believe this is an important achievement for the Italian high -tech industry, as well as recognition of the investments and efforts the BM Group has made to promote the application of ZigBee technology in consumer products."
At the Alliance's recent Open House, a record number of ZigBee products were demonstrated from member companies including: Airbee Wireless, Atalum Wireless, Atmel Corporation, BM Group, Cambridge Consultants, Chipcon, Cirronet, Daintree Networks, Ember Corporation, Exegin Technologies Limited, Freescale Semiconductor, Helicomm, Integration Associates, Jennic Ltd., Korwin, LS Research, Luxoft, Micrel Norway, Microchip, Nanotron Technologies, OKI, Renasas, Sensicast, Silicon Laboratories, Software Technologies Group, Telegesis, Ten X Technology, UBEC, UBI Wave and ZMD.
Another opportunity to see the ZigBee technology in action is right around the corner at the ZigBee Alliance's inaugural ZigBee Developers' Conference October 3 -5, 2005, in Las Vegas. Developers will have a hands -on opportunity to evaluate the ZigBee technology and ZigBee -compliant platforms. For additional information on either event, or to register online, please go to http://zigbee.org/en/events. ZigBee will also be showcased at several upcoming international conferences including: BuilConn/M2M Europe, Wireless China 2005, Net -atHome 2005 and WiCon Asia.
