Digital Fidelity, London based digital audio platform specialists, launch DigiFi-Dock, a new solution that can dock multiple iPods, address and control all the music as one seamless collection and then play out into separate zones.
(Indianapolis, IN) After launching successfully launching DigiFiTM, a music server platform for OEMs, London based audio software specialists Digital Fidelity realised that there was a gap in the market that no one had yet filled properly.
There is another option
The iPodï phenomenon is the next format step -change in audio since CD, primarily due to the way that the iPodTM has revolutionised the way that consumers have access to their whole music collection enthused John Booth CEO of Digital Fidelity. They can now carry their complete music collection with them at all times, but they also want to be able to play this music within their home audio system or car.
At present, the only way they can realistically do this by connecting the iPodTM using an audio cable or one of the few docking stations starting to emerge, but control is still limited to a simple remote and the rudimentary serial interface on the iPodTM itself.
The DigiFi DockTM concept
Digital Fidelity have developed a platform (DigiFi -DockTM) that enables the consumer to put their iPodTM at the heart of their home audio system in the role of a virtual server. By taking this unique step, Digital Fidelity gives the consumer enhanced control of all this music using a variety of remote control methods and feature -rich interfaces.
Actually the iPodTM is the hardest device to integrate, but it a truly iconic product and brand leader by some margin, and so we picked it first, admitted Booth, however, we will be able to provide the same functionality for any MP3 player by Christmas.
The DigiFi -DockTM solution
Multiple iPods(generation 1 -4) can be docked with the DigiFi -Dock and it doesn t matter if they are PC or Mac formatted (or a mix of both!) and DigiFi -Dock also reads the Mini and Shuffle. The music on each docked iPodTM can be viewed independently or as one large contiguous library in the DigiFiTM interfaces. Needless to say, docked iPods charge at the same time.
Multiple Audio Streams from each iPodTM
Each different stream of music can be created and played in Digital or Analogue. You choose multi -streams from one iPod, one stream from each iPod, or each of the streams being derived from a mix of all the iPods. Each stream can be made up of a mix of uncompressed or encoded music.
The rich DigiFiTM GUI then displays an unparalleled amount of information in the chosen interface. The basics such as Song Titles, Artists, and Albums are shown, but also Playlist, Genre, Last Played, Most Played, Last Added and lastly Cover Art (if stored). DigiFiTM also provides the user with a Search function to seek out that elusive Album or Artist tucked away in their whole music library.
Stream music into Separate Rooms
Each of the audio streams can be directed to multiple home zones using the DigiFiTM interfaces. These interfaces are: -
Full control via IP or RS232
TV interface controlled by infrared
Pocket PC interface controlled by a WiFi enabled PDA
Sophisticated PC desktop interface can control DigiFi -Dock (on a fixed or wireless network)
Manufacturers who wish to exploit the iPodTM market quickly can now, with DigiFi -DockTM,, produce a sophisticated and cost -effective docking device that gives elegant connectivity to a home audio system together with full remote control of the stored music through rich interfaces.
