Russound awarded patent for Twist & Tilt speaker technology

Innovative speaker design gives installers and consumers better speaker placement options for ultimate listening quality

NEWMARKET, N.H., Sept. 8, 2005 - Furthering its position as an industry innovator, Russound® was recently awarded patent 6,925,190 for its Twist & Tilt® technology by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Authors named on the patent include: Ian Popken, director of product development, Andy Lewis, product manager, as well as Allen Boothroyd and Tim Evans of Cambridge Product Design. They share the honor for their outstanding contribution to loudspeaker technology. "When a technology brings benefits to all, that is a true success. The granting of this patent on our Twist & Tilt technology highlights the successes we have already witnessed and further reinforces Russound's leadership position in the marketplace," said Popken.

"The ability for an in -ceiling speaker to target the intended listening area is among the most significant features available to improve sound performance in this category of products," Popken went on to say. "Our patented Twist & Tilt technology accomplishes this objective with a refreshing design that is user -friendly, economical and space -saving. The impact of this technology has been evidenced by the overwhelming success of our Advantage® series product lines."

The Twist & Tilt technology, found in all Russound Advantage series in -ceiling speakers, is essentially two models in one - a standard flush mount as well as a directional speaker - all for the cost and size of a conventional non -adjustable product. The baffle mounts to the frame with a simple twist and lock, with no tools required, allowing the installers to leave their tools behind for the final speaker installation.
For precise sound dispersion, the baffle can be fitted in either a straight down or a 15ş -angled position, providing total flexibility for both the installer and end -user. Additionally, all Twist & Tilt Advantage models install as either a one piece or two piece mounting system allowing the installer further flexibility. Each speaker can be adjusted to direct sound to specific areas of a room allowing for the best sound reproduction possible, providing versatile placement options for installers in unique architecture, and give consumers high fidelity sound for any style home.

The Advantage loudspeaker project was more than a year in the making and represents one of Russound's most aggressive design and engineering initiatives ever undertaken. "From the outset, our mission was both clear and challenging. To design a line of custom loudspeakers that would save the installer time and money, offer maximum flexibility and of course sound great," said Lewis, Russound's product manager.

"The fact that this kind of patent is generally more difficult to obtain places us at the helm of this type of speaker technology, reinforcing Russound's value as a loudspeaker manufacturer," continued Lewis. "We are delighted to see all our hard work resulted in something that offers distinct advantages over the competition, without creating more work for the installer."
