Gefen's new DVI RS-232 Extender uses CAT-5 cable to transmit HDTV and RS-232 for remote operation of the extended display.
Indianapolis, IN - Gefen's new DVI RS -232 Extender uses cost -effective CAT -5 cables to transmit HDTV sources using DVI or HDMI together with RS -232 support. RS -232 allows the use of touch screens or remote control operation of content appearing on the extended display.
High definition resolutions up to 1080p (1920x1200 for computers) are sustained up to 150 -feet in distance. Longer runs are possible at lower resolutions.
The DVI RS -232 Extender's plug and play setup takes just minutes, alleviating unnecessary installation woes. The package includes a sender unit, a receiver unit, DVI and RS -232 cables and an external power supply. The sender is equipped with a DVI input and RS -232 input that connects the sources to the unit. The extended display connects to the DVI and RS -232 outputs on the receiver. Two CAT -5 cables, available in various lengths from Gefen, connect sender and receiver. A 5 -volt power supply, which can be connected on either end, powers the system.
"The DVI RS -232 Extender is the logical next step for Gefen, enabling system integration and cost -effective digital signage extension plus ease of installation for home automation systems," said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO.
When used with a HDMI to DVI Adapter, also available from Gefen, the unit supports HDMI equipped components. Gefen also supplies a VGA RS -232 Extender for analog monitors.
