Chipcon Elected to ZigBee™ Alliance Promoter Status

With unanimous vote, Chipcon moves to top tier of ZigBee Alliance membership and joins ZigBee's Board of Directors

Oslo, Norway and San Diego, California (April 13, 2005) - Chipcon AS, the leading provider of low power, low data rate RF ICs, announced today in a unanimous vote by the ZigBee Alliance board of directors that Chipcon has been elevated to the Promoter level of the Alliance. Chipcon joins Fortune 500 promoter members Honeywell, Freescale Semiconductor, Motorola, Samsung, Philips, Mitsubishi and privately held Ember in the governance of the alliance.

The vote recognized the contribution of the Chipcon team to the recently ratified ZigBee specification. As a technology leader in the rapidly expanding ZigBee space, the company has shipped development kits to over 1,000 companies world wide and contributed large portions of the ZigBee Specification.

The seat on the ZigBee board of directors will be occupied by Don Sturek, CTO, Software for Chipcon, and current Chairman of the ZigBee Architecture Working Group. Mr. Sturek also serves as the CTO of Figure 8 Wireless, a leader in ZigBee software and firmware. Chipcon acquired San Diego -based Figure 8 Wireless in January of 2005, and the combined companies now offer a full range of ZigBee radios, software, development tools, and reference designs for end -to -end ZigBee solutions.
